Senior Linux Engineer

Zoox is seeking a Senior or Staff Level Systems Engineer to be a steward of our Linux production environment. This individual will operate Zoox's application, compute, and storage platforms, directly impacting the growth of our company. A successful candidate will have strong knowledge of Ubuntu Linux and an operational mindset.

In this role, you will:

• Manage and operate Zoox's application, compute, and storage platforms.
• Perform deployment and administrative tasks in Ubuntu Linux.
• Troubleshoot and reverse engineer full-stack solutions.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with other teams to achieve business goals.
• Participate in a 24 x 7 on-call rotation.

Qualifications:

• 8+ years of Linux Systems Engineering experience, with a strong focus on Ubuntu Linux.
• Deep understanding of the concepts of production IT environments and end-to-end service delivery.
• Experience with Linux systems administration, preferably Ubuntu.
• Demonstrable knowledge of networking concepts and troubleshooting, including OSI model, TCP/IP, and DMZ.
• Exposure to operating production environments in AWS.
• Familiarity with real-time monitoring solutions and concepts.
• Proven track record in utilizing Infrastructure as Code configuration management tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Salt.
• Experience deploying remote edge infrastructure while addressing unique operational requirements such as operational command centers.
• Proven experience effectively managing escalations for issues with on-premises bare metal servers.
• Deep knowledge of server hardware.
• Extensive experience supporting and working in data center environments.
• Ability to work independently and lead cross-department projects to completion.
• Familiarity with GPU-backed VDI infrastructure.

Compensation

There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $179,000 to $226,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
