Job Description

Team: IT

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Linux System Administrator in United States.

This role sits at the core of high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure, supporting advanced Linux-based systems that power mission-critical research and production environments. You will be responsible for ensuring the stability, performance, and scalability of complex computing platforms used in scientific and defense-related applications. The position involves hands-on system administration, performance tuning, and collaboration with engineering teams to design next-generation HPC architectures. You will also evaluate and integrate emerging technologies, including new hardware platforms and open-source software stacks, to optimize system efficiency. In addition to operational support, you will contribute to instrumentation and monitoring solutions that provide visibility into system and workload performance. This is a highly technical and impactful role within a cutting-edge, security-focused computing environment.

Accountabilities:

  • Administer and support Linux-based high-performance computing (HPC) systems across research, development, and production environments.
  • Monitor, tune, and optimize system performance using advanced Linux tools and performance analysis techniques.
  • Develop and implement instrumentation and monitoring solutions to evaluate system, subsystem, and workload performance.
  • Evaluate and integrate open-source software tools, frameworks, and HPC stacks tailored to mission requirements.
  • Collaborate with system administration teams across multiple platforms to ensure reliability and consistency of HPC infrastructure.
  • Support architectural design discussions and trade-off analysis for emerging technologies, including CPU/GPU and file system architectures.
  • Maintain and sustain legacy HPC systems while planning and integrating new capabilities into existing environments.
  • Standardize software stacks and operational practices to reduce complexity and improve maintainability.
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert for HPC system administration and infrastructure optimization.
  • Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
    • 8+ years of experience in Linux system administration, preferably in HPC environments.
    • Strong expertise in Linux operating systems, performance tuning, and system instrumentation.
    • Hands-on experience with HPC architectures, system tools, and open-source software stacks.
    • Ability to work collaboratively within distributed system administration and engineering teams.
    • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for complex, large-scale computing environments.
    • Familiarity with emerging hardware platforms (e.g., ARM, AMD, NVIDIA architectures) is highly desirable.
    • Experience supporting legacy systems and integrating modern capabilities into existing infrastructure.
    • Relevant certifications such as Linux+ or Security+ (or equivalent) preferred.
    • Active Top Secret security clearance required.
    • Benefits:

      • Competitive salary range ($134,100 – $241,400, based on experience and qualifications)
      • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
      • Paid time off, holidays, and flexible work arrangements
      • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
      • 401(k) retirement plan
      • Life insurance and disability coverage
      • Opportunities to work on advanced high-performance computing and mission-critical systems
      • Exposure to cutting-edge technologies in defense, research, and large-scale infrastructure environments
      • Strong focus on professional development and long-term career growth
