We are seeking a Senior Manager of the Art Department that’s focused on overseeing the performance, development, and effectiveness of our art team. This role is pivotal in maintaining a well-functioning and motivated art team, balancing schedule, budget, and quality requirements. As a key link between the Art Director, Art Producer and the Art Leads, you will be responsible for the smooth operation of the department, supporting the Art Leads and their teams to ensure timely output, extraordinary visuals, and a healthy team environment.
Your role as Senior Manager, Art Department will require you to improve cross-department collaboration across the studio, prioritize art recruitment needs, ensure artists are trained, and ultimately help ensure the art team is progressing on both project and individual goals.
As a key member of the Art team, you are one of the champions of a positive and inclusive culture across our distributed art team.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with all studio departments to help champion cross-departmental collaboration.
- Work with Art Leads to ensure artists are tasked based on their skills and project needs, while also considering their professional growth and development.
- Help the leads find ways forward in times of ambiguity. Especially when pushing visual quality is at odds with the practicalities of game development schedule demands.
- Partner with HR to drive employee initiatives, communications, performance management, coaching and career development.
- Work with the Art Producer to oversee the progress of all art, VFX, concept, and lighting activities, ensuring timely decisions and output are consistent.
- Oversee the department's hiring and recruitment plans with the Lead Art Producer, maintaining an optimal organizational structure and identifying potential gaps.
- Support and own the documentation (eg. Miro boards) and optimization of the art pipeline, ensuring efficient onboarding and integration of new artists.
- Manage hardware, software, and licensing needs across the art department, analyzing requirements and ensuring resources are allocated effectively.
- Act as the first point of contact for HR matters within the art team, resolving conflicts and facilitating communication.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5+ years of experience in managing art teams in the video game industry.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and foster a positive work environment.
- Experience in transitioning from a prototype to production working culture.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively between different teams.
- Proficiency in art-related software and tools will be considered an advantage.
- Multiple shipped games on PC and/or consoles.
- (Bonus) Unreal experience as it relates to art pipelines.
TNM considers a number of factors when determining each role's base pay range, including industry benchmarks, location, experience, and other job specific skills. In addition to base pay, this role may be eligible for other incentive compensation including equity and profit share. The estimated base pay range for this role is U.S. only and not applicable for locations outside of the U.S.
TNM offers competitive and comprehensive benefits that include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) match, unlimited PTO, supplemental life and disability, and more. Eligibility to participate in these benefits may vary for part-time or temporary employees.
The estimated base pay range for this role is: $175,000 - $260,000
