Job Description

The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. That means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It’s why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It’s why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.

About the Role

The New York Times is a thriving, data-driven organization.  We’re looking for transformational talent to ensure that our data is organized and governed in ways that facilitate that use of data.

You will partner across the Data and Insights Group to organize data in ways that facilitate reporting, testing, and analytics.  You will work with engineers, data scientists, and analysts to build NYT data products and create an environment where the bulk of analytical time is spent on getting answers, not searching for data. You will need to be strategic and tactical, have a track record of improving data infrastructure, and have endless curiosity. You will report to the Executive Director of Data Architecture.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with teams across the organization to identify and understand their needs around data

  • Facilitate the end-to-end process of designing, building and launching large datasets in collaboration with engineering teams

  • Develop data product roadmaps that are aligned to our priorities

  • Manage communication with stakeholders to facilitate feedback and cross-functional alignment

  • Market datasets and ensure proper onboarding and enablement for end-users to drive usage and adoption

  • Leverage data management tools (such as Monte Carlo and DataHub) to ensure proper data monitoring, data quality and data discoverability

Basic Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of progressively complex experience in product management or data analytics, with 2+ years in data analytics

  • 4+ years of experience managing complex, cross-functional projects end-to-end

  • 2+ years of experience with agile methodologies

  • 2+ years of experience with big data environments such as GCP, AWS, and/or Snowflake

  • Mastery of SQL

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with concepts around data mesh and dimensional modeling

  • Experience with dbt

If you see a job opening here that might be a good fit for you, we encourage you to apply. We offer a comprehensive and competitive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision plans for employees and their families, health and wellness programs, a 401(k) plan, tuition reimbursement, paid vacation, paid parental leave, and much more.
