What you get to do:

OppFi is looking for a Data Science leader to join our credit team. In this role, you will be responsible for building and developing a team of highly skilled professionals that provides advanced AI & Machine Learning models for our Lending products as well as the new iterations of the product, leading experiments on alternative data for continuous improvement in model predictive performance. You’ll also be involved in high visibility initiatives to make OppFi's Lending products the best offering for our customers in terms of price, features, and underwriting process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide thought leadership & strategic thinking to translate business problems into analytical/modeling frameworks
  • Lead a Data science team to deliver advanced analytic solutions including Credit Risk models, Marketing Models, and other statistic models to drive data-driven decision making
  • Establish and maintain effective model performance tracking
  • Identify improvement opportunity, and propose/implement test design
  • Collaborate with cross-function partners to understand & meet their business requirements
  • Work with external vendors to prioritize and manage product evaluation and data studies, in collaboration with the Data Science team.
  • Collaborate with Model Risk Management, Legal and Compliance teams to deliver the models align with internal model risk policy/procedure and external Regulator requirement.
  • Recruit, coach and develop talents to their full potential with solid advanced analytical competencies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to explore new ways of finding insights from data and to ensure alignment on priorities.
  • Regularly work with senior leadership (C-Suite) team members to manage expectations around delivery and present solutions

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree (required) or advanced degree (preferred) in a quantitative field (mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, etc.)
  • 5+ years of experience in Data Science, and theoretical knowledge of various Machine Learning algorithms and Deep Learning algorithms
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented leader with 1+ years of experience in leading a team of analytics professionals
  • Proven analytical work experience in Financial Services, preferably at a FinTech company, building and managing risk strategies for various credit products (loans, lines of credit, credit cards, etc.)
  • Strong analytical, quantitative and problem-solving skills with an ability to make data-based decisions
  • Advanced SQL programming skills and experience in Python
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interface with multiple stakeholders and senior leadership (C-suite) across the organization
  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment

Reports to: Vice President, Credit

Job Level: Sr. Manager

The minimum salary for this role is $160,000. The total compensation package includes eligibility for performance-based bonuses as well as a 1-time equity grant based on level.

The actual offer, reflecting the total compensation package and benefits, will be at the company’s sole discretion, and determined by a myriad of factors including, but not limited to, years of experience, depth of experience, and other relevant business considerations.
