Senior Manager, Data Science - Quality

Our Guest & Host organization is responsible for Airbnb’s web and native apps used by hundreds of millions of our guests and hosts around the world. Our Quality Data Science team sits within the Guest & Host organization and plays a vital role in assessing and improving the quality of the Airbnb experience. By crafting data informed strategy through causal inference and experimentation and building state-of-the-art technology in large language models and reinforcement learning, Airbnb aims to ensure high-quality experiences and stays across our platform.

The Difference You Will Make:

You will lead the team's strategic effort to define, measure and improve the quality of the Airbnb experience for our hosts and guests. You will have a significant impact on developing a "universal system" that drives consistent quality across the platform and ensures a seamless and enjoyable experience for Airbnb users.

As a Senior Manager, you will be part of a highly collaborative team with high visibility from Guest & Host and Executive leadership. This cross functional effort is focused on improving the reliability  and quality of a guest’s trip, connecting guests with listings that meet their personalized needs and defining and enforcing policy standards. Together, the team aims to make a transformative impact, improving trip reliability and the quality of trips taken. 

A Typical Day: 

Airbnb leverages data science to analyze and improve various aspects of its business, including our work on quality. As a data science leader you will: 

• Lead and provide strategic guidance to a team of data scientists, guiding them through advanced modeling and inference tasks in the area of Data Science Quality.
• Develop and refine Airbnb's Data Science strategy for Quality in collaboration with cross-functional teams, setting the direction for the organization.
• Ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of highly sophisticated models powering our efforts in Quality, taking ownership of the technical excellence in this domain.
• Act as the key liaison between the Data Science Quality team and the product organization, fostering effective communication and collaboration at the highest level.
• Partner closely with product, engineering and finance teams to align on strategic goals and deliverables, providing executive-level leadership in driving the overall success of initiatives for Quality.
• Drive the development of groundbreaking and innovative strategies in the domain of Quality, leveraging advanced data science techniques to optimize user engagement and satisfaction.

Your Expertise:

• 12+ years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree or Masters/PhD in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Data Science or Statistics.
• Experience managing individual contributors (ICs).
• Deep understanding of machine learning, predictive modeling, and data-driven product development.
• Strong track record of experience in data science, with expertise in forecasting and marketplace dynamics.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to influence and drive change in a cross-functional environment.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing data-driven strategies to address complex problems and improve business outcomes.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strategic thinker with a passion for innovation and problem-solving.

Your Location:

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager.
