Amex Digital Labs:
Amex Digital Labs is responsible for catalyzing innovation at American Express by originating, incubating, and managing products and platforms that are essential to our customers' lives. We are a fast-paced team that leverages emerging technologies to develop digital payment and financial services products, customer servicing solutions, and engaging membership experiences. We often collaborate with top technology companies and strategic partners to bring products to market.
Role Description:
In 2020 we launched Send & Split, which allows US Consumer Cardmembers to seamlessly send money and split Card purchases with any other Venmo and PayPal user in the Amex App. We are looking for a seasoned Product Manager to join the team and continue iterating on this product by driving the development of new products/features that will capture incremental market share. In addition, this Product Manager will be tasked with exploring how the Send & Split architecture could be further expanded to enable our Card Members to pay anyone, outside the confines of the traditional Amex credit card rails. In particular, this person will be responsible for assessing and integrating Real Time Payments into the product offering.
This Product Manager will be required to conduct market research, identify industry trends, pinpoint customer needs, determine the customer experience, work cross-functionally to drive and articulate requirements, deliver product features, define complex technical architecture in collaboration with tech, and evolve the product backlog. The Product Manager, along with the Product Director, will represent the product with internal and external audiences.
Lastly, this person will be expected to contribute to the New Product Development (NPD) process within Amex Digital Labs. This would entail working with other team members on existing NPD ideas or pitching their own ideas for other potential future products.
Primary responsibilities:
- Collaborate with internal teams to shepherd your product through the development process, advocating to create the best outcomes
- Partner with engineers and solutions architects to identify technical solutions, assess technical tradeoffs, define API specs, and deliver product features/platform capabilities
- Set and track development/release timelines, navigate intricate dependencies, and communicate impacts to stakeholders
- Form hypotheses, define metrics, analyze KPI's, and collect customer feedback in order to continuously improve the product and refine feature backlog
- Balance the needs of customers, internal stakeholders, leadership, and partners alike
- Support Business Development and Marketing teams with go-to-market strategy and execution
- Digest legal regulations/requirements and create the best outcome possible for customers while meeting those requirements
- Coordinate across internal/external teams to launch features in market and manage products post-launch
- Maintain pulse on external trends and marketplace dynamics impacting the payments and banking industry, to inform continuous product evolution
- Participate in the New Product Development process by contributing to the development of existing ideas or by pitching their own
- We are seeking a Product Manager with a passion for technology, a clear focus on the customer, strong communication skills, and the ability to provide clarity and direction across teams.
Key qualifications are:
- 4+ years experience in new product development, product management, or similar role
- Ability to influence key internal stakeholders
- Enthusiasm for exceptional products and services, deep customer empathy, keen product intuition, and skilled at articulation of product functionality
- Understanding of tech and product development processes, known as a "business person who can talk tech"
- Ability to reconcile competing needs across customers, stakeholders, and partners; gather the information, assess tradeoffs and risks, gain buy-in, make an informed decision, and support that decision with compelling evidence
- Curiosity and hunger to know how things work and ability to use that knowledge to make connections and find opportunities, with an entrepreneurial mindset
- Detail oriented, able to identify key questions, and assess how pieces of the puzzle interact and affect the overall project
- Determination to deliver the best outcome for our customers
- Ability to recognize issues quickly and determine how to get a resolution through creative and efficient problem solving
- Skilled at transitioning back and forth between big picture strategy and nitty gritty details
- Adaptability; able to change your approach based on your audience
- Team player, flexibility, and comfortable with ambiguity
- Highly organized
- Willing to take initiative and be accountable for results
- Excellent communication skills across distributed and global teams with ability to engage, influence, and inspire partners to drive collaboration and alignment
- Willingness to be creative within the bounds of the highly regulated environment that is, financial services
Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
