Position Summary:

The Senior Manager Design NPI leads and manages the Enclosure Experience (EXE) New Product Introduction (NPI) team and collaborates with Industrial Design, Human Factors, Product Development, Quality, Manufacturing, Procurement, Contract Manufacturers, Marketing, and other groups to launch instrument enclosure designs with high quality cosmetic finishes into manufacturing that meet or exceed the Industrial Design intent. This role reports into the Illumina Platform NPI team in the Operations organization in the areas of NPI, manufacturing transfer, DFx, and troubleshooting of new products. The selected candidate possesses an energetic passion for visual style, aesthetics, and visual quality. Illumina sets a high bar for Visual Brand Language and Industrial Design for our instrument platforms, so this role is integral in achieving illumina's mission and vision.

Responsibilities:

• Provide leadership, direction, and support to NPI EXE team of mechanical engineers to manage transfer of instrument enclosures and high cosmetic finishes working to manufacturing.
• Create and drive team mission and vision derived top-down goals and objectives.
• Collaborate with Marketing, Product Development (PD), Human Factors (HF), Industrial Design (ID), and User Experience (Ux) partners to explore innovative designs while steering selection toward balancing risk and return both to users and manufacturing.
• Collaborate cross functionally to buy off and lock down on final mechanical design for materials and subsystems that have cosmetic value.
• Align visual brand language for current and new platforms following corporate cosmetic guidelines and ID intent.
• Evolve and influence Visual Brand Language and drive Operation Excellence to achieve more sustainable enclosure cosmetic finishes from multiple suppliers in various regions.
• Drive selection and qualification of critical suppliers and lead team towards suppliers with substantial capabilities in delivering high cosmetic (CMF) quality enclosures and materials.
• Formulate and execute long-term plans for New Product Launches and cost/profit control.

Requirements:

• Experience with instrument enclosures with high performance/high quality cosmetic finishes, Human Factors, User Experience, or industrial design required.
• Manufacturing experience required.
• Comfortable working in an open, collaborative, and team-oriented matrix environment required.
• Technical competency in mechanical engineering or similar engineering discipline required.
• NPI experience highly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability with managing deliverables and supporting issue resolution highly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to succeed in a team environment on multiple concurrent projects in a complex, dynamic, sometimes ambiguous environment preferred.
• International and domestic travel of up to 20% at times with flexibility.

Experience and Education:

• Requires Bachelor's or advanced degree in Engineering, applicable field, or equivalent.
• 10+ years of direct work experience, with 3-6 years of Management experience.
