Job Description

What you build and where it takes you should be unrestricted by the capabilities of your database. We created CockroachDB as the planet's most highly evolved, cloud-native, distributed SQL database. Making scale so simple you don't even have to think about it. Making data so resilient it becomes impossible to destroy. Making delivery so seamless, your apps run anywhere. Join us on our mission to build a different breed of database—one born in the cloud and built from the ground up to help companies of any size scale fast, survive disaster, and thrive everywhere.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Manager of Enterprise Architecture to lead a team of experienced Enterprise Architects (EAs). Our EAs are responsible for empowering our customers to best utilize CockroachDB. They do this by leading customers to production, appropriately allocating resources, understanding customer objectives, requirements, success criteria, and priorities, and developing strong relationships between both customer stakeholders and internal teams. We believe that in order for an EA leader to be successful, they must have a deep understanding of database technology, the overall stack, and the infrastructure that CRDB operates within. They must also possess excellent customer-facing and consultative skills, with the ability to meet customer timelines and deliver against critical milestones that lead to production. The Senior Manager of Enterprise Architecture will be a trusted advisor to the customer and must understand how to expand key accounts while preventing churn. Location is flexible for this role, but you must be based in the Western U.S.

You Will
  • Manage a team of experienced Enterprise Architects and act as a player-coach, helping manage and lead complex Enterprise accounts.
  • Work directly with assigned customers while also providing technical guidance to the EAs and escalating to Product and Engineering when required.
  • Partner with the Senior Director of Customer Success on accounts to define strategies for driving customers to production, renewals, and expansions, while identifying risks and building remediation plans.
  • Utilize your technical skills to demonstrate value to customers and drive adoption and growth.
  • Understand the “drivers” for the customer, define use cases and success criteria.
  • Mentor the EAs to work with customers and to define production date, milestones required to achieve delivery date, project plans and resource management.
  • Partner with the Cockroach Labs Sales Account team (Account Executives, Sales Engineering) to identify opportunities for new usage of Cockroach Labs across organizational functions.
  • Develop and implement best practices, processes, and tools that will continually enhance Cockroach Labs’s Customer Success initiatives.
  • Understand how our customers are utilizing CRDB solutions and collaborate with Product on how additional features can be leveraged to increase adoption and growth
  • Function as a technical point of escalation for customer-related issues; you will ultimately be responsible for the ownership and execution of tailored get-well plans while partnering with EAs and technical support to drive quick and efficient issue resolution.
The Expectations

In your first 30 days, you will learn about CockroachDB and assess where the product would be a good fit for certain use cases. During this time, we also believe it’s important for you to establish internal relationships across sales, product, and engineering to effectively be able to navigate resources to help you in your efforts with customers.

After 60 days, you will be working very closely with Customer Success leadership to define repeatable processes for delivering “white glove treatment” to our customers and a methodology to reduce Time to Value while bringing our customers into production.

You Have
  • 8-10+ years experience in customer success, professional services, technical account management or similar field
  • 3+ years of managing a technical customer success team
  • Strong experience leading and delivering on delivery, expansion, adoption, and retention
  • A deep knowledge of databases, distributed systems, and modern enterprise software architecture
  • Successful track record of driving product adoption and expansion through understanding the customer's current (and future) database requirements.
  • Ability to perform in a “Player/Coach” capacity
  • Experience in hiring and training talent at scale
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • A degree in Computer Science or other technical major.
  • Ability to travel as needed
Our Benefits
  • 100% health insurance option (for you and your dependents!)
  • Paid parental leave (with baby bucks)
  • Flex Fridays
  • Flexible time off & flexible hours
  • Learning and Development budget
