Variant Bio is a Seattle-based biotechnology company leveraging the power of human genetic diversity to develop life-saving therapies. Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced (Senior) Manager, Finance and Accounting to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing various financial functions, including month-end close processes, accounts payable (AP) management, tax reporting, contract management support, contributing to budgeting and forecasting activities, and supporting payroll compliance and reporting activities. This position requires a strategic thinker with a strong background in accounting and finance, particularly in a start-up environment (experience in biotech preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operational accounting activities.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance in financial transactions.
  • Implement and maintain robust accounting processes.
  • Lead and manage the accounts payable function.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve any AP-related issues.
  • Manage and complete the month-end close process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Review financial statements and reports for discrepancies and compliance.
  • Assistance with payroll matters including communicating payroll changes and updates to the payroll provider
  • Oversee tax reporting responsibilities, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Collaborate with external partners for tax planning and reporting.
  • Provide support in the management of contracts, including ensuring financial implications are accurately reflected.
  • Collaborate with legal and R&D teams to review and negotiate financial terms.
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of budgets, including budget to actual analyses to provide insights and support informed decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance in a start-up environment.
  • CPA license preferred.
  • NetSuite or similar ERP experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ("US GAAP"), specifically as it relates to common accounting matters in the biotech industry.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
  • Willingness to learn new areas and take on new tasks as needed to support a growing business.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial modeling.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret financial data and provide strategic insights.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-finance stakeholders.

Anticipated annual base salary for this position is $120,000 - $160,000 plus up to 10% bonus and an options package, for total compensation of up to $132,000 - $176,000, plus equity options.

The annual salary range above is based on the responsibilities and qualifications listed above. Individual salary will depend on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
