Job Description

At AES, we raise the quality of life around the world by changing the way energy works. Everyone makes an impact every day in our small, global teams. Apply here to start an extraordinary career today.

AES CE has a current opening for a Senior Manager, HR to serve as the business partner to our Development function. This role will develop and analyze reports to support leaders in decision making, implement employee transactions in our HRIS, Workday, support hiring managers in opening and filling positions, guide leaders through talent management and employee relations matters, and partner with our global centers of excellence to create and implement programs that meet the needs of AES CE. In addition to the HRBP responsibilities, this role will manage change management and project management aspects of Workforce/Headcount Planning and various process development/optimization activities.

The Senior Manager, HR will work closely with leadership teams for solar and storage development in six regions: California, NY/New England, Mid-Atlantic, Mountain-West, Midwest, Hawaii. In addition, AES is evaluating entrance into new geographic markets beyond these six. The Senior Manager, HR will also be responsible for two AES nationally focused teams, Wind and distributed generation. The Senior Manager, HR is expected to facilitate people and process outcomes that ensure teams have the correct staffing resources and business processes to be successful.

Coaching and advising leaders in the Development functions is a critical aspect of this role.

AES has three values which it expects to show up in the behaviors, attitude and belief systems of its people.

  • Safety is our first value. We expect people to participate in a workplace where they are both physically and emotionally safe. As required, the Senior Manager, HR will intervene to ensure all leaders and employees exemplify this value. Our Safety value also means a work environment that promotes robust debate and space to voice dissenting views. We need people to speak up and respectfully challenge views and assumptions while business decisions are being made. The Senior Manager, HR will evaluate how teams interact and advise leaders and employees to ensure this objective is met.

  • All Together is our second value. We expect our people to feel ownership and connection to the projects we develop and operate. Further, we expect people to feel ownership and connection to the communities and customers we serve. All Together requires people to align to common goals, invest their intellectual and emotional energy, and fully appreciate the impact an individual's performance has on the broader team. The Senior Manager, HR will work with teams to ensure they are staffed with people that hold and exemplify this value. The Senior Manager, HR will develop ways for leaders to drive this value throughout the organization and ensure accountability to this value.

  • Higher Standards is our third value. We seek people with a growth mindset who are constantly seeking to innovate - both incremental and step change. This includes optimizing technologies on projects, designing solutions for customers, engaging with communities and creating better and more intuitive business process. Higher Standards is the value that underlies our career development program. We need our employees to share their strengths with others and recognize areas where they could improve. The career development process requires leaders and managers to explicitly articulate what employees need to do differently to do better in their current role and advance to other roles.

Our goal is for all employees to have a career development plan. The Senior Manager, HR will advise leaders and people on formulating plans and intervene and support in situations where an employee does not have a career plan. These are tracked in Workday, making the plans easy to access and report progress in reaching our goal.

This position requires at least 7 and preferably 10 or more years of HR or HR COE experience and a bachelors degree or equivalent.
