Senior Manager K9
Job Description
The K-9 Senior Manger serves as the primary kennel master and is responsible for managing and maintaining all aspects of the kennel facility to include the day-to-day operations and oversight of K9 Managers and K9 Handlers. The K-9 Manager is also responsible for imprinting and training newly acquired detection dogs, as well as overseeing and conducting continuous weekly training exercises for all K-9 Handlers. In addition, the K9 Senior Manager will serve as the Corporate Security K9 Department head and carry out the direction, mission, and duties directed by the Executive Director of Special Operations on behalf of MGM Resorts International.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and maintain all aspects of the kennel facility.
- Performs technical reviews of teams and makes recommendations concerning the ability of canine teams to remain proficient in the detection of explosives/firearms and advancing training to counter emerging threats.
- Manages schedules, reviews work, and evaluates K9 Managers all K9 employees.
- Evaluates and selects new detection dogs for the Corporate K-9 Program.
- Conducts continuous weekly training exercises on both K-9 explosive detection and firearms detection.
- Maintains the day-to-day health and welfare of assigned detection dogs, to include ensuring routine veterinary visits and maintenance of proper canine health documents.
- Supervises the cleaning and disinfecting of kennels, wards, cages, equipment, runs and other areas of the facility with appropriate cleaning agents to maintain a healthy, clean, safe and sanitary facility.
- Oversees the provision of food, water, and proper care for all canine dogs by adhering to schedules and protocols within departmental policy.
- Responsible for the safe and efficient control, handling, and disposal of explosive training aids, ensuring that all training aids are handled, stored, and disposed of in accordance with established protocols/best practices.
- Maintain up to date records on training, licenses, and permit requirements.
- Perform basic canine emergency first-aid as needed
- Provide excellent guest service to guests and employees
- Act as a First Responder in emergency situations
- Be flexible to on-call hours as needed.
SUPERVISION:
- K-9 Managers
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent experience
- Two (2) years of canine management and supervisory experience.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Must hold or be able to obtain certification in the completion of both canine firearm and explosive detection courses
- Must hold or be able to obtain certification as a canine trainer by a nationally recognized law enforcement agency or US military branch
- Gaming Registration
- Valid Nevada Driver's License
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to participate in all evacuations procedures to aid guests and employees during an emergency
- Ability to learn, demonstrate proficiency and effectively use various computer software
