Senior Manager - Lab Operations

Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Manager of Lab Operations to join our R&D Team. In this role you would be responsible for assisting in the buildout of a new 7,000 sq ft lab space and managing lab operations at the new site. The Senior Manager of Lab Operations will play an integral role in the initial lab set-up and build-out, including large and small equipment procurement, coordination, and relocation into the new lab in 2023. Once relocation is complete, key aspects of the role will include ensuring smooth day-to-day operations in the lab, equipment monitoring and maintenance, purchasing and maintaining lab supplies, and EH&S compliance. The ideal candidate has previous experience working in the biotech industry, including experience in lab build outs, lab operations management, procurement of lab supplies and equipment, equipment maintenance, EH&S compliance, and project management.

Responsibilities

• Participate in construction planning to support the build out of the new lab facility
• Manage relocation of lab space to 1150 Eastlake (an Alexandria Real Estate Equities property). Relocation will include procurement of new equipment and supplies, overseeing installation of new equipment, maintaining inventory, and ensuring safety of the new space
• Purchase lab supplies and equipment and coordinate equipment maintenance. Serve as the primary contact for vendors
• Work with R&D team to understand lab processes and requirements while identifying opportunities for increased operational efficiencies 
• Oversee and maintain lab safety policies and EH&S requirements
• Assist in training new employees on lab safety

Qualifications

• B.S./B.A. Degree in a life science
• 5+ years relevant lab operations experience in the biotech industry 
• Project management experience
• Experience with EH&S compliance
• Experience with lab relocation and buildout
• Ability to help resolve technical problems
• Experience purchasing lab equipment and supplies and managing budgets
• Experience maintaining clean spaces and sterile equipment
• Exceptional work ethic and attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
