Job Description:
The Director of Audience Development, TechCrunch will develop, monitor and coordinate data-driven initiatives that introduce TechCrunch content to new readers across the globe, build loyalty and engagement with its existing audience, and craft a distribution strategy that will extend the reach and amplify content across search, newsletters, multiple social networks, and more. Using analytics, research, and insights, they will also work with editorial, marketing and product leads to inform content and subscription strategy across the site. This person should also have an eye for revenue, with an understanding of how display, subscription, e-commerce, and partnerships come together to move the business forward. This role will report to the Director of Marketing, TechCrunch.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Editorial, Product, Marketing, and Sales stakeholders to develop and execute data-driven audience growth plans across a variety of platforms
- Develop and maintain partnerships with third party platforms that enhance the distribution and exposure of TechCrunch content
- Develop a measurement and testing strategy for website optimization and use analytical deep dives to identify new content opportunities for brand growth
- Manage overall audience development testing strategy-including consumer funnel optimization, distribution channel mix, and headline and image optimization
- Develop and oversee newsletter strategy and manage all newsletter products from editorial curation to production, and work on testing and optimization on a rolling basis
- Identify new growth opportunities and best practices based on emerging digital trends, competitive business intelligence, and consumer insight
- Own weekly, monthly and annual traffic and growth reporting and analytics for the TechCrunch ecosystem
- Nurture and lead a team of content and growth specialists
Skills
- Ability to grow multichannel audiences through product recommendations, marketing insights, and business relationships
- Ability to design and deploy campaigns to generate audience insights with tools capable of A/B testing, pattern matching taxonomies, and surfacing user behavior
- Strong analytical capabilities
- Ability to provide creative and strategic data-based insights
- Ability to connect audience growth initiatives to key financial and business goals
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in a related field (journalism, communications, marketing, analytics, business) required. Graduate degree is a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in the media publishing industry, with a thorough understanding of online business models and strategies
- Detailed knowledge of major web analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Omniture, Parsely, Marfeel and/or Chartbeat
- Deep understanding of all audience development channels - SEO, social, newsletter, and partnerships
- Solid understanding of social and mobile channels, and deep familiarity with social analytics tools
- Possess an entrepreneurial spirit, an inherent understanding of the web, and an eye for strategy
- Ability to work autonomously with little direction on assigned tasks and communicate efficiently with a distributed team across multiple time zones
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop a team of highly motivated individuals
- Must be capable of presenting to and working with all levels of an organization, including at the VP level

The compensation for this position ranges from $111,750.00 - $219,375.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives.
