Who You Are: As the Senior Manager of Retention, you will play a pivotal role in developing and executing strategies to enhance customer loyalty, increase customer lifetime value, and drive subscription retention. You will be responsible for managing an email marketing specialist and working closely with cross-functional departments, including marketing, product, and customer support, to achieve our retention goals. In addition, you will utilize customer data to tell meaningful stories that inform decision-making and drive business growth.
What You're Good At:
Developing and executing retention strategies: Driving the development and implementation of comprehensive retention strategies to increase repeat purchase rate, minimize churn, and optimize customer lifetime value. Identifing key customer segments, analyzing their purchase trends, and creating targeted initiatives to enhance engagement and retention.
Subscription retention: Building and executing strategies to maximize subscription retention rates. Collaborating with marketing and product teams to create retention-focused campaigns, personalized experiences, and proactive outreach initiatives. Monitoring and analyzing subscription metrics, identifing patterns, and implementing strategies to minimize subscriber attrition.
Customer data analysis and storytelling: Utilize customer data and analytics tools to extract insights, trends, and patterns. Translate complex data into actionable strategies and compelling narratives to inform decision-making at all levels of the organization. Present data-driven insights and recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders.
Developing and implementing email and SMS marketing strategies to engage and retain customers, including creating compelling content, managing segmentation and personalization, optimizing delivery schedules, and conducting A/B testing for continuous improvement.
Team management: Leading and mentoring an email marketing specialist. Providing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback to ensure individual and team success.
Collaboration and cross-functional alignment: Collaborating with marketing, product, customer support, and other relevant teams to align retention initiatives with broader business objectives. Working cross-functionally to integrate retention strategies into all customer touchpoints and initiatives, including marketing campaigns, product development, and customer support processes.
Experience in leveraging Segment's Customer Data Platform (CDP) technology, encompassing implementation, configuration, advanced analytics, audience management, integration, data governance, and innovation.
What You Contribute:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a customer retention or loyalty role, preferably within a direct-to-consumer company or a subscription-based business. Demonstrated track record of success in improving customer retention, increasing customer lifetime value, and utilizing customer data to drive business growth.
Analytical mindset: Strong analytical skills with the ability to derive insights from complex data sets. Experience in analyzing customer data, segmentation, and conducting cohort analysis.
Experience with Segment or other CDP technology is preferred.
Strategic thinker: Proven ability to think strategically and develop data-driven retention strategies aligned with broader business objectives. Adept at identifying opportunities, setting clear goals, and executing on initiatives to achieve measurable results.
Leadership and team management: Experience in managing and leading a team. Ability to inspire and motivate team members to achieve individual and collective goals. Strong coaching and mentoring skills to support professional growth and development.
Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to present complex data and insights in a clear and concise manner to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Proficiency in storytelling and translating data into compelling narratives.
Collaborative mindset: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Experience working closely with marketing, product, and customer support teams to align initiatives and drive customer retention.
