Senior Manager of Software Engineering

Vicarious Surgical is hiring a Senior Manager of Software Engineering to join our team in Waltham, MA. In this role, you will lead the team that creates the firmware that runs our robotic device. You will work closely alongside software architects and electrical engineers to specify and design solutions to complex real-world problems. As the manager you will set the execution pace for the team and provide overall technical leadership.

Vicarious Surgical is a next generation robotics company developing a disruptive technology with the goal of increasing the efficiency of surgical procedure, improving patient outcomes and reducing healthcare costs.

Responsibilities

• Provides direction to employees to complete assignments using established guidelines, procedures, policies, and management guidance
• Be an active participant in the architecture for a highly distributed embedded application system
• Specify, design, and build firmware driving sensing and actuation for complex robotic systems
• Work closely with electrical and software engineers to nail down specifications and develop coherent interfaces
• Manage a team who is conducting C/C++ development on ARM platforms with RTOS, including some hands-on development
• Set goals for talented software engineers, manage and grow a high performing team
• Interact frequently with cross-functional peers, Project Managers, electrical engineers, and controls engineers
• Follow medical device software lifecycle process (ISO 62304 compliance)

About You

• Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering discipline
• 10+ years of experience programming embedded systems in C/C++, including at least 5 years of experience managing software engineers working in agile environments
• Medical device experience working under a QMS (ISO 13485/21 CF Part 820)
• Strong architectural skills
• Experience with Object Orient Development and Design Patterns
• Strong working knowledge of common communication interfaces (SPI, I2C, CANBUS, TCP/IP, etc)

Preferred skills include some of the following, but not all are necessary for a successful candidate:

• Development on Real-Time operating systems (RTOS)
• Experience with DDS using RTI Context
• Experience with SAFe execution
• Experience using AWS infrastructure
• Background in Medical Device Cybersecurity concerns
• Experience applying risk mitigation approaches for Class 2 and Class 3 medical device software
• Robotic systems experience
• Experience with Java, Python, or C#
• Experience with coding standards such as MISRA C/C++
• Hardware development experience
• Linux and QNX development experience
