The Senior Manager, Business Development (Partner Engagement), is responsible for overseeing Mathematica's enterprise partnership approach to identifying, developing, and overseeing partnerships, facilitating knowledge sharing, mentoring a network of partner liaisons within the firm who will help directly manage partner relationships, and increasing our overall presence in target market ecosystems through partnership engagement. The Senior Manager, Partner Engagement plays a role in shaping the day-to-day responsibilities of this position as Mathematica builds out our enterprise partnership management function.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop a deep understanding of our target market ecosystems, client needs, and business strategy; use this understanding to ensure we have relevant partner portfolios that meet business needs and achieve impact
  • Build organizational capabilities for managing partner relationships by developing a framework, processes, and tools that facilitates how we develop, expand and manage partnerships across the organization
  • Govern the partner management process; create partner liaison training and provide coaching
  • Collaborate with business development staff across the organization to manage the pipeline of new and existing partners; coordinate with partner liaisons; govern and share information about partners and our interactions
  • Identify new potential partners for new markets and engage with partners to identify joint interests and execute on opportunities to work together
  • Design and develop processes and knowledge management system to track and measure partner engagements
  • Increase our engagement in the target market ecosystems through direct external interactions with new and existing partners and ecosystem groups where relevant partners participate.
  • Actively support the advancement of organizational diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, and apply diversity, equity, and inclusion lens across job responsibilities.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Functional Knowledge:

  • Experience creating and negotiating mutually beneficial partnerships and managing strong partner relationships, preferably in a government contracting environment and a passion for social research and public well-being.
  • Demonstrated understanding of civilian federal and state government stakeholders and philanthropic sector
  • Innovative and growth mindset, self-driven with strong initiative; sense of ownership and responsibility towards work.
  • Experience in a matrixed organization and history of working with operating business units collaboratively is preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate with external and internal stakeholders
  • Ability to interact tactfully and diplomatically with others
  • Flexibility to handle multiple priorities, sometimes simultaneously, under deadline and stakeholder expectation
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, talent management systems, and collaborative tools such as Mural
  • Ability to travel (particularly to Washington D.C. if not based in D.C.) as needed

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a policy or business-relevant field, such as Business, Economics, Public Policy
  • Master's degree in business, public policy, or public health (preferred)
  • 7+ years of experience building and managing long-term partner relationships, preferably in the Federal or state government contracting space
  • A combination of equivalent education and relevant work experience may be substituted for the above requirements.

This position offers and anticipated annual base salary range of $110,000 - $155,000. This position is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on company and individual performance.

This position can be Remote (WFH) but will require regular travel to Washington DC, Princeton NJ and other national locations where our partners are located.

Although Mathematica does not require vaccination from COVID-19 as a condition of employment, various projects or agencies may require documentation of vaccination (or an approved exception/accommodation)

Various federal agencies with whom we contract require that staff successfully undergo a background investigation or security clearance as a condition of working on the project. If you are assigned to such a project, you will be required to obtain the requisite security clearance.
