Senior Manager, Payroll
Job Description
The Senior Manager, Payroll position leads the team responsible for managing the company's HR processes for 18,000 Cox Communications employees. Responsible for providing direction to the team that completes transactional work in all aspects of payroll, data entry and/or pay management as well as developing longer-term strategies to optimize the delivery of payroll services. The incumbent utilizes strong people leadership and employee development practices that are complemented by a current knowledge of payroll practices and technologies. The incumbent will also serve on various project and initiative teams as requested, either in a leadership capacity or as a payroll subject matter expert.

- Leads day-to-day activities of the payroll team to maintain momentum and a sense of urgency toward desired results. Ensures the delivery of a high-quality customer service experience for employees and ensures timely and accurate information is provided to employees in a professional manner. Ensure the consistent delivery of all payroll services. Examples include PTO Payout, Bonuses, Time and Labor corrections, tax updates or corrections, general deductions, additional pay, etc.
- Consistently delivers upon leadership expectations for people development, conducting one on one meetings with team members, including meaningful career development coaching and conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings to deliver results. Implements and documents coaching, performance improvement, and performance evaluations to ensure growth and optimize individual and team performance. Applies functional and technical expertise and knowledge of payroll administration to provide on-the-job training to team members.
- Resolves complex inquiries from Tier 1 and HRBPs regarding various employee matters related to payroll. Researches and resolves escalated employee issues and corrects errors as necessary.
- Sets the example for the team of maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality around employee information.
- Ensures the team follows applicable processes and procedures. Maintains records to support transactions and provide documentation to the appropriate parties, including CEI, government agencies, and others.
- Contributes to development of operating budgets, may be responsible for managing a budget.
- Provides thoughtful input into broader organizational and business planning efforts.
- Negotiates and manages services and costs with external providers and consulting firms.
- Audits and submits data entry uploads for taxes and commissions such as uploads for taxes to ensure compliance with company, state, and federal laws.
- Communicates employee concerns, trends, recurring issues, service opportunities, and related issues to leadership within the Employee Service Center.
- Develops and maintains relationships with department peers focused on collaboration, honesty, integrity, and respect for each other.
- Attends job-related training and remains current on HR policies & procedures, particularly as it relates to payroll and/or the payroll components of leave administration.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum
- BA/BS degree in related discipline with 8 years of experience required in Payroll Services Delivery OR 12 years of equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
- 3+ years of experience leading a team.
- Experience with Workday, PeopleSoft, Kronos, or a similar payroll system is required.
- Requires strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including strong MS Excel is essential.
Preferred
- MS degree +6 years of experience in a related discipline (i.e. Human Resources) OR Ph.D +3 years of experience in a related discipline.
- Experience with administering payroll services in a large, multi-state/multi-entity organization.
