Team Description

The Global Analytics, Data & Marketing (ADM) team is responsible for overseeing analytics, data products and platforms specific to the Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS) business. Our team is dedicated to helping American Express leverage enterprise-wide capabilities and assets to strengthen our integrated network and become an essential part of our customers' digital lives. We directly support and strengthen our network of merchants by maintaining and enriching Amex closed loop merchant data, executing scaled and bespoke insights and analytics to drive merchant and partner marketing and operations, and identifying prospective merchants and suppliers to bring into our integrated network.

Role Description

Within ADM, the Merchant Data Enrichment and Enablement Team support and strengthen our network of Merchants by maintaining and enriching Amex closed loop Merchant data while focusing on enhancing the value of Amex acceptance to Merchants and Card Members at scale.

The Merchant Data Enrichment and Enablement team is responsible for designing and implementing strategies to improve the quality of merchant data for digital marketing and business operations. The team partners closely with marketing and technology teams to enable data products by enriching the quality of data and to integrate it with highly strategic use cases across the enterprise, such as Consumer Statements & Disputes, Cardmember Industry Bonusing, Amex Maps, and Amex (Digital) Offers. As a part of the digital journey, the team continues to explore innovative solutions on big data, using traditional and digital data sources that are expected to generate incremental value.

Reporting to the Director - Merchant Data Enrichment and Enablement, the Mgr./Sr. Manager Product Owner will be responsible for building data products that leverage Big-data based matching and arbitration algorithm(s) that leverage advanced analytics and AI/ML solutions, data distribution, data governance rules, user-interface for data review / manipulation and APIs for real-time data integration to the use-cases.

Primary responsibilities include:
  • Define and execute merchant data product strategy by enhancing CRMD (Consumer Relevant Merchant Data) and enabling new use-cases to support GMNS and enterprise priorities.
  • Creating and maintain the product roadmap and work with multiple partner teams towards seamless execution.
  • Deliver strategic priorities for a global product by building scalable data solutions to evolve and transform merchant and cardmember experiences that rely on rich merchant data.
  • Establish and maintain relationship and communication channels with internal customers & stakeholders of the product across Merchant, EDDS, Consumer & Commercial organizations within American Express. Keep the partners engaged with latest product development efforts and capture their needs/inputs to further enhance the product.
  • Be a data quality guru with an ability to analyze, slice and dice data with a keen eye for identifying opportunities for greater efficiency and improvement to merchant data, as well as maintenance/governance processes around it.
  • Work closely with the Data Science team to identify how advanced analytics, AI/ML solutions can be leveraged to build new product features and define the product roadmap.
  • Closely partner with Technology teams to maintain the product backlog, frame business requirements (user-stories), test and deliver data capability projects using Agile methodology.

Required Skills/Qualifications:
  • Masters in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Management or a related (quantitative) field, and 2+ years of relevant experience or Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • At least 2 years' experience as a Product Owner/Manager using Agile methodology is required.
  • Ability to understand product architecture and connect the dots between business objective and technical solution to make informed business decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and negotiation skills combined with an ability to interact effectively with diverse audience across Business and Technical teams is required.
  • Good business acumen to convey key benefits to customers and successfully launch new solutions.
  • Demonstrable analytical aptitude and ability to analyze data to come up with meaningful insights and make informed business decisions.
  • Knowledge of SQL / Hive and other data querying and manipulation techniques is desired.
  • Basic understanding of advanced analytics techniques and how they can be leveraged in a product will be a plus.
  • Self-starter who can combine exceptional problem-resolution and critical thinking skills and be willing to adapt to new technologies / tools.

Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
