The Senior Manager, R&D Accounting, is a key member of our Finance team and will be reporting to the Assistant Controller.  This individual contributor role will serve as the Finance lead for all accounting activities supporting the Research & Development organization, including accounting for multiple clinical trials.  Ideal candidate will have a successful track record of managing competing projects and priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment with strong knowledge of US GAAP, public company reporting requirements and a strong record of business partnership and influence.

Responsibilities:

  • Interact and communicate directly with the Research & Development organization, which includes Clinical Operations, CMC, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, CROs, and other vendors regarding tracking of all contracts, the overall progress of projects and status of completion of work at each reporting period.
  • Collaborate with the Research & Development organization and the Legal team for contracts and work orders, amendments of existing contracts and new contracts for planned projects.
  • Generate and manage all Research & Development accruals models to prepare and record monthly journal entries and reconciliations to ensure accurate and timely month-end close.
  • Own and prepare all clinical trial related accruals, including CRO costs, site costs, patient costs and pass-through costs. Work with the Clinical Operations team to set up clinical trial accrual templates based upon clinical study protocol and ensure the accruals properly reflect clinical trial activity and that financial information is valid and accurate.
  • Work with the CMC team to ensure manufacturing related expenses are appropriately accounted for, including considering assessment of lease accounting for manufacturing agreements, VAT assessment for foreign invoices and capital expenditures related to CMOs.
  • Manage all aspects of Research and Development organization accrual accounting from designing accrual models to projecting study related costs and ensuring accrual estimates are supported by reasonable methodologies, which includes:
    • Evaluating vendor contracts and/or timing of delivery of goods or services to estimate expense accruals
    • Maintaining detailed project accrual trackers in Excel
    • Preparing quarterly meeting minutes and coordinating quarterly meetings with functional departments ensuring timeliness and completeness of financial obligations.
  • Proactively examine purchase orders to assess financial impact.
  • Responsible for professional fees accrual (legal services, consulting services, etc.) and other general accruals.
  • Responsible for operating cash account reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley 404 internal control policies and procedures specifically related to clinical trials, CMC and other Research and Development related- accruals.
  • Perform ad-hoc projects and/or assist other Finance Team members, as necessary

Qualifications:

  • NetSuite ERP experience and biotech experience a plus
  • Minimum BA in Finance/Accounting and 5 years or more of relevant experience in Clinical/R&D accounting is essential
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word & Outlook
  • Strong communication skills; effectively interact with others at all – within and outside of finance
  • Work in a fast pace, high volume environment while remaining a positive team influence
  • Exceptional attention to details and highly organized
  • Experience working in public company environment

The salary range posted describes the minimum to maximum base salary range for this position in the location listed.  Actual salary may vary based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Base Salary Range: $153,450 - $164,670
