Senior Manager - Security Discovery and Advancement

We are looking for an individual to join the Security team and lead our Discovery and Advancement team.  This is a high impact role reporting to the Senior Director of Security Operations, and you'll lead efforts to better understand, analyze and protect Fastly’s environment while collaborating with the several teams making up Security at Fastly. 

You will be supported by a friendly security team, where you can learn and develop. We check our egos at the door. You’ll make sure our customers benefit from services built to the highest security standards in the industry.

What You'll Do

  • You’ll lead a talented team of security engineers that are subject matter experts in vulnerability management and offensive security
  • You’ll lead and collaboratively plan, scope, prioritize, and execute offensive security engagements against Fastly applications
  • You’ll spearhead and improve processes related to prioritization, risk rating, remediation, and reporting vulnerabilities across all assessments
  • You’ll lead efforts to improve automated vulnerability discovery, reporting and remediation  
  • You’ll drive the continuous improvement of the applications security and Vulnerability and Asset Management Program initiatives
  • You’ll develop and implement a program to standardize, consolidate, and simplify vulnerability remediation regardless of source (penetration test, SAST, DAST, vulnerability assessment, bug bounty, etc)
  • You’ll collaborate with other teams and use your knowledge of Fastly’s environment and risk exposure to help improve security protection, detection, and response activities.  

Work Hours: This position will require you to be available during core business hours.

What We're Looking For

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience scoping and performing security assessments independently and in collaboration with key stakeholders 
  • Experience in identifying and exploiting vulnerabilities in web applications, client/server applications, and network infrastructure. 
  • Experience performing network penetration tests including performing manual and automated scans, configuring and running scanning tools, and interpreting and writing up results
  • Demonstrated ability to develop test approach and plan based on architecture review and considering application business purpose, data flows and interfaces/integrations with other systems.
  • You have knowledge of vulnerability assessment methodologies and tools such as Rapid7 Nexpose and Nessus
  • You take a risk-based approach to vulnerability management and security and demonstrated ability to drive remediation efforts
  • Experience with Linux based systems and production environments 
  • Proven ability to work within a collaborative, cross-functional environment and mentor and develop the next generation of strong security engineers.
  • Strong communication skills; proven ability to effectively communicate security risks
  • High emotional intelligence. Fastly teams care about one another, collaborate regularly and are part of a people first organization
  • You’re passionate about customer service 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • You’ve performed penetration tests and vulnerability assessments for clients to meet regulatory compliance requirements
  • You have built out an internal penetration testing and/or red-team program 
  • You bring a proactive mindset that is constantly looking for ways to improve 
  • You have a proven track record of designing and implementing automation to improve existing processes

Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home.  

This position may require travel as required by your role or requested by your manager.

Salary

The estimated salary range for this position is $166,360 to $244,640.

Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.

This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs.
