Senior Manager, Software Engineering - Unpublished MMO

As an Engineering Manager, you’ll predominantly offer creative solutions to organizational design. You’ll also serve as a mentor for a team of engineers, overseeing performance management, growth opportunities, and accountability.

As a Sr. Manager, Software Engineering, you will report to the team’s Tech Director and oversee a small team of engineers on an early stage product. You’ll be accountable for building and growing your team over time, ensuring their technical output delivers on the team’s goals. and helping to shape the product. In addition to leading the team, you will be hands-on in implementation. All Riot engineers bring deep knowledge of specific technical areas but also value the chance to work in many broader domains. That will include offering creative solutions to organizational design, serving as a mentor for engineers across the team, overseeing performance management, creating growth opportunities, and ensuring accountability.

• Manage a group of 3-7 software engineers, coaching them, and holding them accountable to best practices and their growth plan
• Grow and evolve that team over time to handle new challenges and additional scope
• Champion your sourcing and hiring processes to identify and hire world class engineers
• Partner with discipline and product leadership to develop strategies for improving team health and effectiveness
• Be accountable for the technical health of the product, and take an active part in its implementation
• Guide senior engineering contributors in shaping effective technical discussion
• Mentor engineers in best practices for the current product phase
• Build healthy relationships with other engineering leaders and teams at Riot to foster cross-team collaboration
• Help shape the game and project by giving critical input, as an engineer, as a game developer, and as a player
• Contribute your depth of experience as a game developer to evolve the way the team executes and delivers

• 8+ years professional experience as a software engineer on game teams
• 4+ years experience managing game development teams in your area(s) of focus
• Experience managing engineers and actively participating in their growth and development
• Experience recruiting candidates and growing an engineering team
• Experience participating in technical discussions such as technical design reviews and code reviews
• EITHER Experience with Unreal Engine in AAA context
• OR Experience developing MMO titles
• OR Experience with game tools and pipelines development

• Experience with other game engines
• Experience with both earlier (incubation and prototype) and later (pre production, production, and post-production) phases of game development

(Bellevue Only) Base salary range between $213,200 USD - $297,200 USD + incentive compensation + equity + 401K with company match + medical, dental, vision, and life insurance + short and long-term disability + open PTO.

(Redwood City Only) Base salary range between $233,500 USD - $325,500 USD + incentive compensation + equity + 401K with company match + medical, dental, vision, and life insurance + short and long-term disability + open PTO.
