Join the rapidly growing team of motivated Systems Engineers at AAM developing the industry's state of the art driveline products! Our Senior Engineering Manager leads the system engineering team to take our customer's vision and turn it into products using proven industry system engineering tools and processes. The Senior Manager provides leadership and direction to the ystems team and is accountable to senior management for the team's performance. The Senior Manager is also responsible for growing and developing an effective and efficient system engineering organization. Our projects are highly complex and require strategic direction, cross-disciplinary integration and testing, and ingenuity of approach. At AAM, we're bringing the future faster!
Job Description
• Lead for systems engineering and product development artifacts in projects to quality metrics• Compliance to requirements while complying with PE-PDP gate deliverables.• Provide leadership to systems engineering team in developing electric drive system architecture and validation strategy for electrified products• Develop and execute capability and capacity roadmap.• Incorporate process elements & expertise in accordance to ISO 26262 and ASPICE.• Collaborate with multiple-disciplines, sub-system functions to achieve tradeoffs and optimization of requirements, design architectures that balance performance, overall cost, development time, efficiency, reliability & quality.• Manage risks, compromises, and the impact in a timely manner. Actively seek and remove blockers in collaboration with group managers• Collaborate as needed with external entities such as suppliers, universities to advance Electrification systems engineering at AAM with new technologies per strategy.• Guide / lead in development and maintenance of AAM system development tools.• Guide /lead in development and improvement of AAM Systems engineering processes, including toolchain procurement, evaluation, selection, and deployment.• Collaborate with AAM Advanced engineering in identifying and implementing system features roll out planning from advanced engineering, into electrification group, to close product function / performance gaps • Make / review decisions regarding technical approaches & product designs• Lead and direct activities, assigning, coordinating, and reviewing work of system engineers, to design new solutions and evaluating existing designs.• Ensure that competency level is at the level required to properly handle new & future projects recruiting, review and selection and placement of personnel.• Allocate staff to various projects and support project team in priorities management.• Meets product engineering financial objectives by estimating requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
* Manages a group of product engineers and is responsible for appraisals / development activities.
• Interface with customers frequently during weekly PDT and technical reviews and manage application engineering team.
Lead design engineers and coordinate with cross-functional teams during new business development phase from RFI/RFQ stage to program approval stage.
Required Skills and Education
Required: • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical , or Electrical Engineering.• 10+ years of product design and development experience in the fields of transmission, gearboxes, axles, or electric propulsion in transportation
Experience with the design & development of electric drive units and e-beams (axles)• Excellent oral and written business communication • Ability to generate clear and concise formal presentations• High level of analytical ability• High level of interpersonal skills • Ability to set and meet goals for all deliverables• Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing engineering teams• Strong planner of development programs and creating schedules
Knowledgeable of electric propulsion trends in the market• Supervisory experience
Preferred: • Understands various highly-integrated electric systems which include electric motors, gearboxes, electric park lock systems, electric pumps, heat exchangers and power electronics (including inverters)
Business acumen and ability to cascade down the engineering deliverables to meet QCD targets of customer /program in accordance with AAM IPM process.
Validation requirements of electrified drive units
Advance engineering degree (MSEE, MSME), or direct experience with electric drive units
