Role Summary
Magna New Mobility is seeking a highly motivated Senior Mapping & Localization Engineer to join the Autonomous Mobile Robotics Development group in Boston, Massachusetts. Must be a passionate and hands-on engineer, designing and developing both mapping and localization algorithms. The Sr. Engineer must be comfortable working with minimal supervision to meet defined program objectives and milestones in an environment where you are given the freedom to innovate, explore new methods and solutions. Magna New Mobility offers an agile engineering and development community; one in which a candidate will be expected to bring a high level of energy and enthusiasm.
Key Responsibilities
  • Formulate system objectives and identify relevant use cases to generate meaningful requirements specifications.
  • Design and implement real-time localization and/or mapping software for an autonomous vehicle
  • Review literature and select methods that fulfill the needs of our system
  • Design and implement experiments to measure performance characteristics of algorithm implementations
  • Break work down into system components and design + negotiate their interfaces with owners of neighboring components
  • Integrate new algorithms into existing software structures to add additional features or resolve functional and/or performance issues.
  • Data acquisition; capture/log data for problem investigation, including presenting annotated data to engineering and management teams.
  • Clearly document all work.
  • Maintain software version control during all stages of software development.
  • Perform other duties, support special projects and tasks as assigned.
  • Must work in an organized and orderly fashion, following modelling guidelines and/or industry best practices.

Key Qualifications/Requirements
  • 5+ years in autonomous driving, robotics, or other relevant industry
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects; requires good time management and organizational skills to meet stringent deadlines.
  • Experience with GPS, odometry, IMU, SLAM, state estimation, maps, scan matching
  • Experience with real-time implementation in resource constrained computing environments
  • Experience with modern C++ language (C++11 and beyond)
  • Experience with modern software tools and design patterns
  • Experience with Visual/Inertial SLAM algorithms and libraries
  • Experience in function development - base knowledge of automotive software development practices.
  • Familiarity with standard robotics sensors (cameras, LIDAR, RADAR, IMU, etc.)
  • Knowledge of vehicle connectivity/telematics including communication protocols.
  • Issue/project management - JIRA, Agile, Scrum
  • Configuration Management / Repository - software release management, including data/parameter dictionary,
  • Highly proficient with MS Office based productivity tools incl. Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, etc.
