Job Description

Company Description

Opportunity is not evenly distributed. Shopify puts independence within reach for anyone with a dream to start a business. Since 2006, we’ve grown to thousands of employees and generated over $496 billion in sales for millions of merchants in 175 countries.

This is life-defining work that directly impacts people’s lives as much as it transforms your own. This is putting the power of the few in the hands of the many, is a future with more voices rather than fewer, and is creating more choices instead of an elite option.
Moving at our pace brings a lot of change, complexity, ambiguity—and a little bit of chaos. We thrive on that and are comfortable being uncomfortable. That means Shopify is not the right place for everyone.

Before you apply, consider if you:

  • Care deeply about what you do
  • Excel by seeking professional and personal hypergrowth
  • Are resilient and resourceful in face of ambiguity and thrive on (rather than endure) change
  • Bring critical thought and opinion
  • Embrace differences and disagreement to get s**t done and move forward
  • Work digital-first for your daily work

Job Description

The Core Product Marketing team is looking for a Senior Marketing Content Designer to join its team.

The Core Product Marketing team focuses on the concepting, building, and execution of work that tells product-powered stories to Shopify merchants. While we hail from a variety of disciplines (product marketing, content strategy, design, development, video, and production), the core craft of this team is storytelling.

You’ll translate your love of language, penchant for problem solving, and sense of storytelling to craft meaningful, useful experiences for merchants. Your goals? Educate, motivate, and convert. You’ll use your varied writing background and experience to write for projects big and small. A shapeshifter at heart, you’ll be able to channel different voices and across many touchpoints, while effectively balancing our business goals with those of our merchants. Drawing on a proven history of collaborating across teams and disciplines, you’ll be a bridge-builder and a dot-connector.

Note: While this role is marketing-focused, this isn't a content marketing or social media role.
What you’ll do in this role:

  • Own the written component and messaging strategy of digital marketing projects from concept to execution, in partnership with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Develop and create written content for marketing channels, including social media, email campaigns, and landing pages.
  • Leverage strategic insights to plan projects that align to audience goals as well as business needs.
  • Help shape briefs and transform them into wireframes, storyboards, and written artifacts that will deliver on project goals.
  • Collaborate with visual and UX designers to create content hierarchies and structures that guide users through experiences
  • Contribute to the Content Design discipline by participating in its rituals and staying abreast of how the discipline and tools are evolving; leverage new tools in service of a culture of constant innovation.
Help shape ever-evolving product narratives and brand voice for core product marketing
Critique and elevate others’ work; seek critique for your own work.

Qualifications

Requirements for the role:

  • Proven track record of crafting audience-centered writing and shaping elegant marketing experiences for the web, ideally for software or digital products, with a portfolio that showcases highly-impactful work.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, both in written and face-to-face contexts
  • Exceptional ability to communicate thinking and rationale behind decisions
  • Exceptional attention to detail, maintaining high quality bar from prototype through release.
  • Experience working on cross-disciplinary teams that include designers, developers, product managers, and researchers
  • Experience in adapting work to perform across multiple contexts including SEO, brand, product marketing, paid media, and social channels.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with a data-informed approach to design
  • The ability to prioritize simultaneous project requests from various teams in a fast-paced environment; exceptional time management skills
  • Be obsessed with honing your content craft (IA, terminology, semiotics, conversational design, and expression) and driving impact for Shopify.

Note: All applicants must submit a portfolio or samples of work with their application to be considered
