The mechanical engineering group is responsible for designing and manufacturing support of rugged handheld and mobile communication devices.
Job Description

Designs and analyzes products for cosmetic and functional housing, internal components, and development, including evaluation of existing standard parts. Verifies designs using CAE, manual methods, and functional test. Designs and performs experiments for verification of analysis.

Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations

The engineer will be responsible for product design and development as well as manufacturing support for highly sophisticated and rugged communications devices for professional and mission critical markets in the commercial, government and industrial segments. Engineers will work in team environment and will develop overall design concepts for mechanical components and assemblies. They will be responsible for the detailed design of components which include plastic parts, sheet metal stamping, die casting, rigid and flexible printed circuit board, and rubber components. The designs are intended to meet stringent specifications such as Military Standards and IP environmental protections.

Specific responsibilities include: 

• Preparing concept designs of mechanical sub-system that meets customer requirements and expectations, reliability and robustness requirements, manufacturing processes and safety guidelines 

• Interpreting and generating 2D drawings per mechanical drafting standards 

• Understanding of tolerances and effect on design (6sigma design methodology) 

• Setting up and maintaining bills of materials and releasing mechanical prints 

• Supporting prototype/pilot builds 

• Performing mechanical verification tests per products specifications and writing test reports 

• Compiling information for user manuals and/or instruction sheets

Specific Knowledge/Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering 

• 3-5 years of mechanical engineering experience

• Strong familiarity and proficiency with PTC Creo 3D modeling and surfacing software, or equivalent, to design components and assemblies.

• Experience in designing and developing innovative solutions that represent the cutting edge of electronic packaging technology is required. Posses working knowledge of worst-case and statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning and geometric tolerancing.

• Design, analyze and test communications devices for Mil-Std drop/shock, vibration, IP water/dust sealing and thermal management. Understanding of product Qualification / Reliability parameters; provide Root Cause analysis on failures related to process or materials. 

• Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Demonstrated experience of Finite Element Analysis for structural and heat transfer applications highly desirable.

• Experience with design guidelines and material properties of mechanical commodities such as plastics, die castings and sheet metal stamping. 

• Familiar with six sigma methodology or green belt/black belt certification will be added advantage.

• Experience with 3D Modeling tools 

• Experience with product development process

• Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering 
• 3+ years of experience
