ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer at Biofire, you will be responsible for developing new product platforms as well as managing sustainment and product improvement initiatives. Responsibilities also include exercising sound engineering judgment and providing technical leadership on improving and refining existing hardware standards and processes. The role is intended for mechanical engineers with significant design for manufacturing experience. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer works both independently and in a team environment with Designers, Engineers, and Technicians.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Day to day responsibilities of the role will include:
- Responsible for product Technical Data Packages, ensuring functional dimensioning schemes, appropriate GD&T, and ASM Y14.5 compliance;
- Responsible for tolerance stack analyses that ensure design functionality;
- Responsible for the accuracy of assemblies and BOMs;
- Support all levels of change orders through the PLM system;
- Support the development of innovative firearm and/or accessory programs, ensuring that product requirements and cost targets are met;
- Proactively and independently complete highly complex, accurate analyses of kinematic and dynamic motion using hand calculations or FEA where appropriate;
- Supporting manufacturing through testing, processes, and vendor development.
QUALIFICATIONS

- 10+ years of engineering experience working in either R&D or Production environments;
- Proficiency in using CAD software to create parametric solid models and associated drawings (SolidWorks highly preferred);
- Experience using a PLM system for complete product lines (SolidWorks PDM and/or Arena highly preferred);
- Must be able to generate clear, fully dimensioned, ASME Y14.5 compliant drawings of complex parts using logical datum structures and functional dimension schemes;
- Must be familiar with GD&T symbology and standard inspection methods;
- Must be capable of completing complex tolerance stack analyses using software;
- Must have a fundamental understanding of manufacturing methods including machining, metal injection molding, stamping/fine blanking as well as knowledge of material selection, heat treatment, and coatings;
- Must have practical experience with mechanical assembly;
- Experience using and maintaining firearms and/or related products is preferred;
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

This is a full-time, salaried role with a flexible work-from-home policy. The compensation range for this role is $150K - $180K.
LOCATION AND HOURS
Our dog-friendly, state-of-the-art headquarters is located in beautiful Broomfield, Colorado, between Boulder and Denver. Most roles require team members to frequently collaborate in person, but you will enjoy the flexibility to work from home when you need to. We trust you to communicate with your team to make things work.
