Senior Mechanical Engineer

The Divergent Adaptive Production System (DAPS) is a complete software hardware solution designed to replace traditional vehicle manufacturing. To make the complex simple, it is a complete modular digital factory for complex structures. Given a set of digital requirements as input, the machine automatically computationally engineers, additively manufactures, and assembles any complex structure. The system is able to move seamlessly between manufacturing different vehicle models.

Purpose of Job: 

Leads mechanical design of full systems and components of a laser powder bed fusion machine meeting cost, reliability, performance and schedule targets. Partners closely with software, process, optics and controls teammates to develop a complex industrialized production tool. 

Essential Job Functions and Performance Standards: 

Conceptual through detailed design of various subsystems for a laser powder bed fusion machine 

Associated structural, thermal and dynamic analysis / simulation 

Integration of various electrical, controls, optical and fluids components as required 

Collaborate with external design and manufacturing partners as required, ensuring high quality and schedule adherence to project milestones 

Hands on development fabrication, assembly, integration and test of systems designed 

Work Environment: 

Office, laboratory, light manufacturing

Requirements: 

Top of Form 

Education: 

Bachelors or Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline 

Licenses/Certificates: 

- 

Experience: 

5+ years detailed design of complex mechanical systems (industrial machinery a plus) 

Knowledgeable of laser powder-bed fusion/sintering systems 

Skills: 

3D modeling of complex systems in CAD 

Detailed design, including GD&T 

Experience using PLM systems 

Tolerance stack-up analysis for integrated assemblies 

FEA or similar structural analysis

Hands-on skills in basic fabrication or assembly 

High passion towards a common mission 

Strong communication skills, verbal and written 

Team collaboration with internal and external partners / stakeholders
