Senior Mechanical Engineer
Job Description
A Senior Mechanical Engineer designs, builds and tests various mechanical devices, like industrial machines, transportation systems and robotics equipment. Their main duties include locating problems with various machinery, conducting experiments to improve different product designs and using CAD technology to build product designs.Â
What you’ll do:- Design mechanical and mechatronic systems for industrial robotics applications.
- Analyze mechanisms and components for strength, reliability, and environmental loading.Â
- Support cost-down initiativesÂ
- Work with and possibly direct interdisciplinary teams including electrical, systems, and safety to assist in the definition of mechanical design requirements. Be responsible for or assist with the successful management of engineering programs as they relate to cost, quality, safety, timing and customer satisfactionÂ
- Manage subsystem and component level design requirements through cross functional collaboration.Â
- Conduct and participate in the design meetings/reviews, machine debug, power-up, and machine validation and testing with the appropriate functional teams.Â
- Create and manage highly detailed and functional 3D models and detailed drawings.
- Optimize designs via analytical, numerical and/or empirical assessments.Â
- Be responsible for the creation, development and release of component and system specifications and documentation, including ECO creation for releasing all product documentation to the PLM system.Â
- Be responsible for the creation of component and subsystem design verification plans and test methods, as well as actual testing.Â
- Interface with manufacturing groups and suppliers for ensuring feasibility and manufacturability of all designs.
- 5-8 years minimum of professional experience
- B.S or in Mechanical Engineering or related subject, or equivalent experience and exceptional ability
- Demonstrate excellent solid modeling skills & capability, Solidworks preferred.
- Detailed working knowledge of industrial automation components such as, sensors, motors & drives, robots, power trains, general machine design, technical drawing preparation, various manufacturing techniques, knowledge of materials and general fabrication techniques.
- Experienced working in a cross functional team environment, including both technical and non-technical interaction.
- Innately familiar with the design for any or all the following production processes: machining, sheet metal, and weldments.
- Strong experience with sheet metal manufacturing and additive manufacturing
- Well versed in FEA (Finite Element Analysis)
- Experience with Solidworks
- Master's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
- Experience with wire harnesses, shock/vibration
- Compliance within testing and materials
