Senior Mechanical Engineering Manager

Vicarious Surgical is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineering Manager to join our team in Waltham, MA. This role will be tasked with managing a team of engineers focused on the development of capital equipment associated with our surgical robot.

Vicarious Surgical is a next generation robotics company developing a disruptive technology with the goal of increasing the efficiency of surgical procedure, improving patient outcomes and reducing healthcare costs.

Responsibilities:

• Effectively manage a mid-sized team of talented mechanical engineers by offering both technical and professional guidance.
• Coach the team as they develop the mechanical aspects of the two pieces of capital equipment included in Vicarious Surgical’s robotic system.  Guide them through all phases of product development, including requirements definition, concept generation, detailed design, manufacturing process development, assembly, integration, verification, and validation testing
• Shape and grow the team by identifying and closing gaps and participating in the hiring process. 
• Partner closely with the Project Management Office and the Project Technical Lead to organize, prioritize, and coordinate development schedules.
• Drive comprehensive verification and validation strategies at the subsystem and system level
• Collaborate with other the technical leaders to develop organizational best practices

About You

• Ability to manage and interact with multiple stakeholders and disciplines required
• Ability to review and understand engineering drawings, GD&T and tolerance analyses
• Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturing/Inspection, and various assembly techniques 
• Comfort with and understanding of the interplay between various components of a complex, electromechanical system
• Prior experience with verification and validation plans to advance from prototype designs to finished products
• Prior direct work with external development partners and manufacturers preferred
• Experience with medical device product development / CFR 21 Part 820 design controls, IEC 60601 and the 510(k)-submission process strongly desired
• Ability to effectively communicate ideas and give/receive constructive feedback
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 10 or more years of industry experience including 5 years of direct people management
• Passion for excellence in product development
