Job Description

The Role

We are looking for a self-motivated, strategic, and resourceful Senior Multifamily Portfolio Manager who thrives working in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about providing material value through direct interaction with our institutional multifamily partners.

We partner with some of the largest, sophisticated owners and operators of apartments in the United States. Maintaining strong, long-term relationships and ensuring we are landlords’  preferred partner is an important value driver for Kasa.

In this role, your core priority will be to maximize financial and operational performance across Kasa’s institutional multifamily portfolio, deliver value to our partners by executing on key initiatives, and maintain strong individual and organizational relationships. This is a cross functional role that will offer exposure to several internal teams at Kasa to drive the best performance at the asset level and deliver on our strategic partnership goals with large institutional landlords. The Senior Multifamily Portfolio Manager will be Kasa's point person for some of its most important relationships,  responsible for anticipating challenges and opportunities before our partners do. You will be able to influence internal resource allocation to ensure strong and consistent performance across the Kasa portfolio and develop/implement improvement plans where applicable. If successful, you will work to establish trust with our partners from contract execution to management transition to regular financial performance and operational reviews, including the delivery of on-going financial reporting. In many ways, the candidate for this role will behave like a traditional senior multifamily asset manager but for management of the  flexible accommodations sector, combining an understanding of both the institutional multifamily and lodging worlds. Working closely with our Real Estate Growth team, you'll be the dedicated owner relations & portfolio management contact for our multifamily partners. Through your cultivated relationships, you'll help with expansion efforts with our partners, fueling Kasa's continued growth.

About the Team

The Real Estate Growth department is a dedicated engine through which to build Kasa’s portfolio of flexible hospitality supply. We focus heavily on ensuring our property partners love working with Kasa and that we are their preferred partner of choice. Our mission is to build and grow partnerships through long-term value creation. The team is held accountable to grow our unit count across our existing relationships, which is accomplished by focusing on our three internal pillars: relationships, growth, and financial success.

  • Nurture new and existing relationships, we must build trust and confidence in our ability to operate our partner's assets, provide clear and timely correspondences to partner concerns, and be a knowledge resource.
  • Driving growth, we build scalable processes and systems, providing learning and development opportunities internally and externally, and supporting collaboration, efficiency, and accountability.
  • Ensuring financial success, we maximize profitability, provide financial transparency, create operational efficiencies, and deliver an excellent product.

We are the direct point of contact for all interactions with our property partners, including investors, asset managers, and property managers.

Day in the life of a Kasa Senior Multifamily Portfolio Manager

While no two days are exactly alike, your main charge will be to support our Partners. That can come in the form of reviewing financial and operating performance, pushing forward strategic initiatives, building relationships, or advising on renewals and expansions. You'll be a key liaison between our Partners and Kasa's broad operations and revenue teams that supports our properties on a day-to-day basis. While you will not be directly involved in property level management, you'll need to gain key insights from property leaders to understand the property's performance as a part of your recurring  meetings and calls with Partners. By partnering closely with the operations team, you will learn Kasa’s unique model and value proposition for multifamily owners. This will make you a more informed advisor to our Partners while also helping you build credibility with our internal operations team.

Previous experience with interpreting data is helpful, as this position requires an appetite for reviewing numbers. Equally important is the ability to sell the Kasa value proposition, communicate with Partners to develop strong, long-term relationships, operate as a self-starter, and independently act upon opportunities to move the business forward.

Other responsibilities may include the following:

  • Create strategic plans with input from Senior Leadership that focus on partner retention, satisfaction, and growth through the creation and management of deep relationships with the different stakeholders (principals, asset managers, property managers) in a portfolio of partners.
  • Drive strategic conversations and collaborate with the Real Estate team to identify and execute on expansion opportunities with partners.
  • Proactively connect with stakeholders to receive feedback and work to continually improve the strength of our relationships with our partners with the goal of creating opportunities to become the preferred alternative accommodations service provider with our institutional landlord partners.
  • Review financial statements and quality performance with the Operations team to understand how we are performing against expectations.
  • Advocate on behalf of the Partner and liaise with Kasa's internal departments to drive solutions that improve our partnership.
  • Manage and take ownership for escalations of any serious/urgent issues from or to Partners.
  • Ensure a smooth handoff process, both internally and externally, from move-in to ongoing property maintenance.
  • Rigorously track conversations and outcomes in a CRM system.
  • Intimately understand and execute against our signed contracts.  Help other team members understand the terms and conditions of each partnership agreement.
  • Facilitate requests to property partners for Capex needs, ROI opportunities, and additional requests that surface from our team on the ground.
Experience
  • 6+ years working at a senior level in a client-facing role in multifamily, specifically asset management or property management with a large apartment owner or operator
  • Bachelor’s degree or MBA / similar advanced degree
  • At least 6 years of experience interfacing with real estate owners and operators, and a proven track record of developing strong, long-term relationships
  • You are analytical, decisive and have the entrepreneurial drive to craft and implement strategic plans for partner retention and expansion
  • Strong interpersonal skills - You are someone who gets energy from interacting with others and is excited about meeting new people and building relationships. You are comfortable with difficult conversations as well.
  • Strong communicator - You are able to clearly and concisely communicate both verbally and in writing. You are extremely comfortable on the phone, email, or video calls.
  • Responsive & detail oriented - You take meticulous notes and follow-up after every call. You pick up on the first ring and respond to emails promptly.
  • Travel is part of your DNA and you have a passion for the real estate, tech, and hospitality industry
Plus if...
  • You know what it takes to run multifamily or hotel buildings well
  • You've managed relationships with institutional clients
  • You have financial analytical, accounting, and/or revenue management experience
In one year, you will succeed at Kasa by having:
  • Become a respected/trusted point of contact with our property partners
  • Improve our unit level financial performance and initiate strategic plans to help Kasa fulfill its value-proposition
  • Clearly understand and articulate to the Real Estate team the types of properties and partners we should look to expand with
  • Grew Kasa's portfolio with existing partners
  • Partnered with Kasa's internal operations team to enhance the partner experience
