Job Description

The Washington Post is looking for two senior multiplatform editors to join the copy desk's leadership team.

The senior multiplatform editors will help oversee workflow to ensure stories, graphics, newsletters, podcast scripts, news alerts, social media posts and other Post journalism are edited quickly and meticulously. They should think digitally first and be familiar with optimization best practices in order to help the copy desk grow The Post's audience.

We want energetic managers with a proven record of working within a complex, fast-paced news operation. They should foster compelling storytelling across platforms and work quickly without sacrificing quality. These positions require critical thinkers who are comfortable juggling responsibilities, prioritizing in real time and switching gears with ease.

The senior multiplatform editors will manage members of the multiplatform desk and News Service, so coaching skills and an empathetic leadership style are important. They will also help liaison with the rest of the newsroom on style and editing matters. Strong communication skills and a collaborative nature are a must. Prior management experience is preferred.

In addition to organizational and leadership skills, the ideal candidates must be dynamic copy editors with strong news judgment, a flair for headline writing and a command of language and style. Candidates should have at least five years of editing experience at a mid-to-large-market news organization or a digital outlet with a commitment to strong journalism. A copy-editing test will be required for external candidates.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom and will not be eligible for remote work.
