The role
The Senior Network Engineer leads, implements, and supports the organization's network infrastructure technology. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the organization's network infrastructure is secure. SFM is a leader in the Workers' Compensation Insurance industry and our proprietary software system is key to our success. Ensuring that our systems are secure is critical to the company's business model. This position will provide leadership and high-level technical support for securing the company's network and data, as well mentoring other team members'. You will work closely with management and makes recommendations for advancements in network security technologies and practices and works on projects as needed. What You Will Be Doing
- Provides technical leadership in the design and implementation of networking technologies including switches, routers, VLANs, VPN's, LAN/WAN, wireless and external connections such as internet, disaster recovery site, and remote offices.
- Preserves the safety and integrity of all network systems and data while minimizing downtime for critical systems, including maintaining highly available and redundant network
- Oversees the creation and maintenance of documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes and service records.
- Maintains and supports VoIP networking infrastructure including periodic updates to routers, switches and related
- Works closely with management and provides guidance on the technical direction of the department as well as playing a key role in the budget process.
- Participates in developing responses to internal & external audits, penetration tests and vulnerability assessments as they pertain to network hardware and
- Acts as the subject matter expert on more complex matters and performs work with high degree of autonomy and may provide end user training to achieve efficient utilization of LAN/WAN.
- Acts as a Security Committee member and attends the monthly Security Committee meetings providing updates to discussion topics and action items identified during these
- Takes a leadership role in the department and provides guidance on infrastructure and handles the most complex matters while maintaining appropriate interactions.
- Maximizes the performance of the network and communication systems by monitoring performance, optimizing usage, and tuning hardware and software
- Leads key projects for the department and works to implement technologies that will help improve the company's security posture as well as increase efficiencies.
- Provides leadership and high-level technical support for securing the company network and data and mentors other team members, such as network engineers and System Administrators.
- Maintains high level of professionalism and ethics, while exercising discretion and confidentiality and delivers excellent customer service.
- Designs, writes, and maintains both system documentation and network diagrams for the enterprise.
- Follows company best practices for problem resolution and tracking and communicates status to customers in a timely manner.
What We'll Love About You
- Bachelor's in computers science, information technology, engineering or related field, preferred.
- Six or more years' experience in network administration.
- Experience working within a cloud-based environment desirable.
- Current industry standard certification such as CCNA, CCNP or JNCIA.
- Expert knowledge with various types of technologies such as Cisco Router configuration/monitoring/updating, network switch configuration/monitoring/updating, SSL/VPN, TCP/IP, VLAN, DMZ, and Internet networking technologies including Point-to-Point connections and DNS.
- Advanced knowledge working with security technologies including firewalls and secure authentication.
- Ability to provide solid levels of system up-time by proactively maintaining systems and security protocols.
- Ability to follow directions, understand and adhere to team procedures and company best practices.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with emphasis on documenting abilities.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to work with a variety of users.
- Displays integrity, respect, and confidentiality.
- Ability to lead and mentor others
- Proven leadership skills and willingness to help others.
- Highly organized and detailed oriented.
- Able to work independently with minimal direction along with ability to work within a team setting.

- Must be a Self-starter
- Proficient in MS Office software applications (Excel, Word, etc.)
Physical Requirements
Regular attendance is required. Work takes place in a semi paperless environment within an office setting, either on business premises or remote location, using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers, which requires being stationary for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, and maintain concentration and focus. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms and work with close vision. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 50 pounds. Work is performed indoors with little to no exposure to extreme outdoor weather conditions.
