Senior Observability Engineer

What we're looking for

As a member of the Cloud Solutions team at Momentive, you will have a direct impact in designing, engineering and maintaining Momentive's Cloud, Messaging, and Observability Platform. Solutioning with best-practices, deployment processes, architecture, and support the ongoing operation of our multi-tenant AWS environments. This role presents a prime opportunity for building world class infrastructure, solving complex problems at scale, learning new technologies and offering mentorship to other engineers.

More About the Team

The Cloud Solutions team is responsible for Momentive's AWS cloud platform and DevOps services. We are responsible for deploying and maintaining AWS services, messaging, caching, provisioning tooling and observability platform. Providing repeatable patterns for engineers to deploy securely with minimal friction to the cloud while complying with company and regulatory standards. The Observability Engineer role will help to write observability libraries and frameworks, standardize logging and support our observability tools.

You will

• Work closely with developers in supporting new features and services.
• Build tools to monitor site stability, observability and performance.
• Write observability libraries and APIs that provide a simple, unified interface to other developers when they use our monitoring, logging, and event processing systems
• Provide guidance to other engineers on how they can best use our observability systems
• Partner with other teams on improving our observability systems
• Keep an eye on the new observability tools, trends and methodologies, and enhance our existing systems
• Work in a highly collaborative team environment
• Participate in on-call rotation

You have

• 5+ years of relevant professional experience with an emphasis on observability
• Experience with metrics and logging libraries and aggregators, data analysis and visualization tools - Specifically Splunk and Otel
• Experience instrumenting both Python and Node.js applications to send metrics, traces and logs to third party Observability tooling.
• Interest in Instrumentation and Optimization of Kubernetes Clusters.
• Basically we are looking for someone who lives and breathes metrics.
• Practical knowledge and appreciation of multiple aspects of distributed service design, Cloud Fundamentals and autonomous software design practices.
• Understanding of Linux internals (we favor Ubuntu)
