Senior Operations Manager
Job Description
Job Summary:
The Senior Operations Manager is high level managerial position responsible to plan and direct the operation to improve productivity and efficiency. The Senior Operations Manager is a detail orientated position which provides leadership and direction to a team of employees, while providing training and oversight to ensure the company’s operation runs smoothly. The Senior Operations Manager is to implement procedures, provides information to direct reports such as the Regional Manager and Senior Vice President, and generate ideas to help increase productivity.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for all aspects of multiple daily fleet operations.
- Develops policies, programs, and procedures for efficient operation of transportation systems and terminal operations.
- Responsible for customer reporting, KPI’s, billing and driver settlements.
- First point of contact for operational information including but not limited to store delivery service issues, backhaul information, driver scheduling/availability, and driver concerns.
- Submits recommendations for development of and compliance with transportation policies, procedures, and programs.
- Establishes and implements short/long range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement.
- Conducts continuous analysis of vehicle and driver schedules to increase efficiency and to lower costs.
- Reviews and analyzes reports such as P&L, revenue and performance records, to evaluate productivity and recommended changes.
- Recruits, orients, trains, and monitors progression of new drivers.
- Monitors turnover, evaluates operation, mileage, equipment, time off and pay; makes recommendations and establishes programs to minimize turnover.
- Enforces compliance and administrative policies, procedures, safety rules, and government regulations.
- Directs operation and maintenance of equipment and communication systems; reviews procedures; provides guidance to resolve technical problems; analyzes costs and recommends cost control measures; and develops plans, policies, and budgets.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Other Requirements:
- Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. Bachelor’s degree; at least five years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Or a Master’s degree; at least three years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- Working knowledge of transportation management software and on board technology.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage 100+ drivers, maintenance operation, domicile drop yard, yard drivers and office staff.
- Ability to gather data, compiles data, and prepares reports.
- Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community including Customer’s and Cardinal’s organization.
