Under the direction of an attorney, provides legal support services for internal counsel with an emphasis on matters related to day to day operations of underwriting business units. Responsibilities may require dealing with sensitive legal and business information.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
- Draft, review and manage agreements and other documents in connection with various transactions and projects.
- Coordinate with internal parties to ensure timely completion of important business and regulatory items.
- Work with individuals at all levels in the company, from administrative staff to executives.
- Assist team members with various legal initiatives and/or lead projects under tight deadlines. Work collaboratively with internal colleagues on various projects.
- Participate in team meetings, events, and cross functional opportunities.
- Conduct research and analysis of legal issues relating to the business and underwriting operations.
- Develop contract templates based on evolving business needs and contracting strategies of business partners.
- Ensure contract terms and conditions are compliant with applicable laws and regulations and accurately reflect company intent and strategy.
- Review and revise business unit guidelines and marketing material.
- Respond to information requests.
- Analyze contracts, reports, and other documents, preparing summaries of same as requested.
- Review business files and provide oversight and suggestions to attorneys and others on appropriate action steps.
- Monitor matters and escalate issues requiring attorney involvement.
- Maintain internal records in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Typically Manager or above
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- In-depth knowledge and application of legal research tools, legal theories and insurance practices.
- Strong working knowledge in areas of specialization (corporate, regulatory, insurance)
- Strong analytical and drafting skills.
- Excellent collaboration skills.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite and legal research tools (Westlaw, IRMI, NILS).
- Excellent organizational skills including ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks.
- Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical issues in a clear, concise and effective manner.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree, and/or completion of an accredited paralegal program, or equivalent.
- Typically a minimum of five years of prior paralegal experience in area of responsibility.
- Prior experience working for P&C carriers preferred.

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In California, Colorado, Connecticut, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $49,000 to $98,000 annually.Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
