Position restricted to use in Legal department only assisting the investment & treasury and contract transactional legal teams. Under technical direction of attorneys, provides advanced legal support services to internal clients with an emphasis on matters related to investment transactions, including debt securities and commercial mortgage matters, proofs of claim, real estate, vendor contract transactions and other corporate matters. Will deal with highly sensitive information.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
  • Performs timely handling of highly sensitive issues and materials related to all areas of operation within the legal teams the position supports. Collaboratively works with mostly internal and occasionally external legal staff on various projects, as well as perform regular daily and weekly administrative tasks.
  • Responds to information requests. May provide advice to client groups on a variety of issues, including on matters relating to a broad range of investments, treasury matters, commercial real estate transactions and vendor contract transactions..
  • Reviews documents relating to real estate and vendor contracts.
  • Assists with the daily administration of trades for the private debt portfolio, including coordinating with the private debt portfolio managers and attorneys advising on the debt investments.
  • Assist lawyers and servicing team with closing and post-closing matters relating to the commercial real estate investment portfolio.
  • Collaborates in the preparation and filing of proofs of claim.
  • Performs legal research and keeps current with procedures used by state and federal regulators relating to investment and treasury compliance for insurance companies and large investors. Reviews and keeps current on evolving regulations affecting such compliance.
  • Maintains internal records, including assisting with upkeep of the document management systems, in compliance with corporate policy and federal, state, and local insurance and other

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Knowledge and application of legal research tools.
  • Requires a strong working knowledge of area of specialization (corporate law, contracts, transactions, investments and/or real estate).
  • Strong analytical and drafting skills.
  • Excellent internal/external customer interactive skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite (including Excel and PowerPoint) and business related software systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical issues in a clear, concise and effective manner.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree, and/or completion of an accredited paralegal program, or equivalent.
  • Typically a minimum of five years of prior paralegal experience in area of responsibility (corporate law, contracts, transactions, investments and/or real estate).
  • Transactional experience strongly preferred.

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In California, Colorado, Connecticut, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $49,000 to $98,000 annually.Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
