What is the opportunity?
Work with a collaborative and high-performing team at RBC, one of Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal's top places to work. As the Senior Payroll Manager for RBC US Wealth Management, you will own process delivery, production, compliance and governance for all payroll related services for the US. You will lead a team of Payroll Specialists that are responsible for delivering payroll expertise within the designated region. Additionally, you will provide regional payroll expertise and leadership in support of the second phase of RBC's Workday implementation project.
What will you do?
- Drive compliance, standardization and efficiency of payroll processes within region, aligned to global processes, technology and governance for RBC employees in the United States across multiple businesses/platforms, legal entities.
- Serve as payroll lead SME on any future business initiatives (acquisitions / divestitures) into RBC Workday. Working with Project and Functional team to oversee final design of processes, design and execute testing scenarios, development of documentation and controls framework.
- Deliver accurate and timely end-to-end payroll services, including processing, taxation, payments, adjustments, remittances, audits, verifications, GL reconciliation & reporting, etc.
- Manage hands-on payroll activities where needed - e.g., processing, taxation, payments, adjustments, remittances, audits, verifications, GL reconciliation & reporting
- Use deep subject matter expertise to provide leadership and oversight of payroll service delivery, including tracking of global performance metrics and adherence to service level agreements, providing input to Global Lead when necessary
- Leverage best-practices from Global Payroll team to continuously improve and streamline services
- Leverage deep subject matter expertise to provide regional oversight based on legal / regulatory requirements that impact services, ensuring compliance
- Act as an escalation point for complex risks / issues from direct reports, providing advice and guidance based on payroll expertise
- Collaborate with Global Payroll Lead and other Regional Leads to develop, evolve, and solution pain points for payroll processes
- Responsible for testing and sign off on systems applications changes
- Collects and report metrics for reporting and operational management decision-making
- Ensures all team members are effectively trained and cross trained to ensure contingency and flexibility. Ensures succession plans are in place for key positions
- Manages performance through established measurement tools; promotes reward and recognition of top talent; coaches and mentors direct reports on an ongoing basis ensuring development plans are in place
What do you need to succeed?
- 7+ years payroll experience with expert understanding of payroll program compliance, reporting requirements, and governmental / legal / regulatory environment
- Enthusiastically embraces a culture of continuous improvement, innovative thinking, and faster decision making
- Deep functional expertise in payroll processes, policies, and programs with a focus on the US (e.g. processing procedure, payment policies, adjustment process, etc.)
- Critical and analytical thinking, balancing attention to detail with connection to overarching global strategies as well as excellent project management skills, including planning and deployment of transformation initiatives
- Strong leadership skills; proven ability to manage multiple teams while balancing initiative delivery
- Strong experience with HR and Payroll Software applications. Experience of working with SAP and Workday an advantage

- CPA, Advanced Degree in Finance or Accounting
