About the role: The Senior Payroll Specialist is a critical member of the accounting team responsible for processing GoHealth’s payroll accurately and timely.  This role owns responsibilities relating to all aspects of the payroll process for all compensation plans in the organization.  This role assists the Payroll Manager by having extensive knowledge of payroll processes and procedures and assists with providing payroll related advice, guidance and support to all employees and managers.  The Senior Payroll Specialist serves as the payroll point of contact in the absence of the Payroll Manager and works to promote the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the organization through accurate processing of payroll.

What you’ll do:

  • Implement, review and maintain payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Review employee time & attendance to ensure accurate payroll transactions for non-exempt employees.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation and support, including documentation of analytical review procedures performed
  • Identify and recommend updates to payroll processing procedures.
  • Perform Payroll and Bonus accrual balance sheet reconciliations monthly.
  • Create ad-hoc payroll/headcount analytics review for management.
  • Assist in quarterly and annual audits of financial statements.
  • Perform all internal controls as prescribed by the Company’s SOX environment.
  • Strong project management skills. Demonstrate ability to manage multiple projects and requests.

Skills & Requirements: 

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree
  • 5 or more years’ experience progressively responsible payroll/accounting experience or equivalent combination of experience
  • Knowledge of payroll tax laws
  • Experience with automated payroll and accounting systems
  • Strong organizational, communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands and effectively manage multiple projects
  • Ability to handle confidential information judiciously
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and implement assigned responsibilities and proactively identify potential issues
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
  • Results driven individual with the ability to gain needed insights through strong collaboration skills
  • Ability to complete detail work with accuracy and complete deliverables timely

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge and 2+ years of experience with UKG.

Location: Hybrid (3 days Onsite in our downtown Chicago office)
