Job Description

The Senior Payroll Specialist will be responsible for all payroll processing services including administration of Delta's payroll and associated customer service. The role will ensure adherence to federal, state and local legal requirements, Delta payroll policies and the collective bargaining agreements. Responsibilities include timekeeping, General Ledger Payroll accounts analysis and other payroll functions.

This person will work hybrid out of the Oakland, CA office.

Responsibilities:

  • Balances payroll on a bi-weekly basis. Balances and transmits files to third party vendors. Performs bi-weekly payroll for management and hourly staff, including a cost analysis and balancing of pay funding for each payroll reported to finance.
  • Analyzes all payroll bank accounts, payroll GL accounts and resolves variances.
  • Calculates third party payments to coordinate sick and vacation accruals for employees on FMLA/FCLA continuous leaves of absence.
  • Performs system data maintenance and control, including the calculation of and update to system earnings, tax and deduction tables as interpreted from legal mandates.
  • Performs compliance functions within generally accepted guidelines for accounting standards and audit control; works with internal and external auditors on regular reviews of process and controls to ensure full compliance.
  • Responds to inquiries, resolves pay issues and answers employee and management questions.
  • Overall responsibility for internal payroll system, Kronos, timekeeping database with regard to new hires, and terminations.
  • Processes garnishments and mailing said payments bi-weekly; Responsible for monthly reporting of union dues, completing and payment of said dues and fees.
  • Supports all union activities, e.g. new union employees ineligible for holiday pay for 60-days. Reconciles costing to disburse monthly checks to the union for dues and drive.
  • Assists with year-end reporting, W2 statements. Performs back up responsibilities to the payroll analyst.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience w/High School
  • Experience using robust software systems such as Oracle, PeopleSoft and SAP
  • Strong knowledge federal, state and local laws and payroll / tax regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, payroll policies & procedures, and Delta's accounting structure.
  • Organizational/time management and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle HRMS/Cloud.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of Delta policies and procedures

Base Pay Information

The national base pay range at the end is a good-faith estimate of what Delta Dental may pay for new hires. Actual pay may vary based on Delta Dental's assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, certifications and ability to meet required minimum job qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include prevailing wages in the work location and internal equity.
Pay Grade 17. $50,800 - $106,400
