Who are we looking for?

GHD has an opportunity for a Senior People Business Partner (SPBP), located in Houston, TX. The SPBP in collaboration with their People Leader is responsible for aligning HR strategies to the objectives for their region/function/business. The position serves as a strategic partner and proactively partners with Business Leaders to assist with the strategic business outcomes.

The SPBP provides not only operational support, but also thought leadership in strategic HR programs and initiatives to improve business performance. Collaborating with the Centers of Excellence (COE), the SPBP seeks to proactively develop integrated people solutions for their region.

The SPBP will provide succession cover for the People Leader as required.

Key responsibilities:

Strategic Partner:

  • Contributes to the development and implementation of the People business plan for the current financial year
  • Supports the business by planning and implementing People plans and strategic solutions that result in successful business outcomes
  • Partners with functional leaders and BGL's to understand business priorities and talent needs to proactively respond both strategically and tactically as required to meet business needs.
  • Participates, supports and implements the creation of people programs and plans, in consideration of the Business/Function priorities.
  • Collaborates with the People Centers of Excellence to influence the design of new and existing HR programs, practices and process.
  • Work with BGLs/Leaders to collaboratively build a high-performance culture and increase staff wellbeing and engagement.
  • Analyze market trends, people reports, dashboards and datasets to make quality, data-driven talent recommendations and business decisions.
  • Identify people risks and challenges and liaise with the People Leader to create and implement standard process solutions.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and provides mentorship and support and advice to Business Group Leaders, Team Leaders and employees to develop people capabilities.

Change Agent:

  • Implement and support the People Leader with day-to-day management of a change plan within the Functions in support of business priorities.
  • Design and apply change management and organizational development strategies.
  • Partner with key team members to understand and solicit employee opinions and anticipates their needs and concerns.
  • Utilize engagement tools to assess employee engagement and support in development of action plans to drive engagement and retention.
  • Optimally deliver presentations to various business groups to advise of relevant people issues and initiatives
  • Implement cultural development and change initiatives that create a working environment of accountability, engagement, and innovation to ensure alignment to business priorities.
  • Proactively ensure GHD team members are kept up to date on progressive HR practices and key trends.
  • Maintains modern human resource knowledge by using external network.

Enabler & Champion:

  • Evaluate and handle Employee Relations issues as they arise.
  • Champion effective performance discussions and a feedback/coaching culture.
  • Mediate conflict and conduct workplace investigations when required.
  • Actively promote cultural change and support new initiatives as well as ensuring continuous improvement.
  • Understands and anticipates the need for change, diagnoses the underlying issues and builds the case for change with stakeholders.
  • Supports leaders to identify the right business skills model and reshape groups to achieve improved business outcomes.

Functional Resource:

  • Design, deliver, and may have delegated approval to lead or provide support for local or global, projects within the Functional People Team
  • Deliver both strategic and tactical HR Programs to the relevant Business Groups.
  • Establishes relationships and forms alliances with external counterparts, communities of practice and collaborators to scan for innovations and improvement opportunities.
  • Provide advice and guidance on broad and challenging people issues to minimise risk and financial exposure.
  • Be agile and adaptable in your approach to respond to a variety of situations.
  • Provide trusted advice and support to Line Managers and may be called upon to provide Subject Matter Expert advice to the functional management/leadership teams.
  • Build credibility and trust among employees and respond optimally to queries from managers & staff about a variety of HR activities in a timely manner.
  • May have budget accountability for area of operation.
  • Supports the growth and development of People Business Partners.
  • Provides input into the operational people structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as for providing individuals with professional and personal growth opportunities.

What you will bring to the team:

  • Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or related field of study.
  • Relevant Regional HR Certification desirable.
  • 10+ years of proven experience, where performance has met/exceeded expectations.
  • Solid knowledge of APAC and/or Americas people practices
  • Experience in a global HR role or experience in working with partners across multiple regions/countries
  • Understanding of and/or experience in professional services firms
