Senior Performance Engineer

Redis is looking for a Senior Performance Engineer to join the Redis Core R&D’s Cluster Engineering team.

As a Performance engineer, you will be a part of the performance team in the Testing and Automation Group that is responsible for testing the fastest NoSQL distributed system on earth, supporting more than tens of millions of ops/sec at sub-millisecond latency with true linear scalability.

You will have the rare opportunity to join a newly built team to tackle one of the core capabilities of our product. You will own, develop and maintain all the performance testing capabilities for the Testing and Automation group. You will serve as the performance SME in the R&D group, supporting more than 300,000 databases on our service, providing solutions to the world’s largest companies.

A successful candidate is a strong independent individual with experience working on complex scalable software solutions, has broad technical hands-on experience and great communication interpersonal skills.

What you’ll do: 

• Analyze complex distributed systems, define and implement performance tests that would measure the data path, control plane and APIs
• Develop and maintain a performance testing framework, including monitoring, reporting and alerting
• Building new performance regression test use cases and drive automation for continuous performance testing
• Identify real world usage scenarios and gather workload requirements to performance tests based on customer environment and data
• Identify performance tuning opportunities and remediation options

What will you need to have?

• At least 5 years of experience in a performance testing role analyzing and automating performance workloads on large scale distributed systems
• Hands-On coding experience in BASH and any scripting language
• Proven experience in Load or Performance testing: design, environment setup, implementation, with an emphasis on result analysis and reporting
• Expert level understanding of the key performance monitoring metrics like TPS, latency, bandwidth, memory, CPU, disk & network
• Good familiarity with Linux and automationCI tools and frameworks
• Independent, outstanding attention to detail and interpersonal skills
• System thinker with an ability to understand the bigger picture of any test
• Familiar with computer networking terminology tools and basic premise

Extra great if you have: 

• Experience with monitoring technologies (Grafana, Prometheus, APM)
• Experience with database testing (preferably NoSQL database)
• Experience with distributed systems (clusters, complex test/network topologies, etc.)
• Experience with cloud computing Dev/Ops (AWS, VmWare, Azure, etc.)
