Senior Photogrammetry Technical Artist

That’s No Moon is an independent AAA game development studio established in 2021 by veterans of some of the most recognizable and critically acclaimed creative teams in the world, including Naughty Dog, Infinity Ward, Santa Monica Studio, Bungie, PlayStation, and more. A remote-friendly studio with a central office and performance capture stage located in Los Angeles, That’s No Moon is creating the next generation of narrative-driven, genre-defining experiences built upon a culture of creativity, collaboration, responsible production practices, and individual empowerment. We are assembling a diverse team of passionate developers of a wide range of experience levels and backgrounds to help shape the future of our studio and projects.
We are seeking a Senior Photogrammetry Technical Artist to help build the infrastructure and tooling that powers our internal scan asset library. Working alongside our Photogrammetry Lead and in collaboration with Engineering and Tech Art you will help to develop automated capture and processing pipelines that decrease manual artist work and improve quality. You will be a part of a small team that drives our look development and sets the quality bar for the rest of the team. With your help we will push the industry to new heights of realism, gameplay and storytelling!
Responsibilities:
- Continue to develop and maintain our automated processing pipeline including raw image ingestion, naming and processing, Reality Capture CLI, asset cataloging, storage, etc.
- Improve current and build new tools/pipelines for mesh/texture processing in Houdini, Substance Designer, Substance Painter, and Maya.
- Collaborate with outsourcing, Tech Art, and Tools Engineering to build tools/pipelines for improved external collaboration/feedback.
- Liaison with Tools Engineering and IT to setup and deploy batch automation on processing
- (If needed) Travel to scan locations, terrain, materials, and props, and work closely with external vendors for additional capture and processing of content.
- (If needed) Assist in the gathering, processing, and refining of scan data.
- Collaborate with Environment Art, helping them utilize scan data to efficiently build realistic, motivated environments.
Requirements & Skills:
- 4+ years of experience as a pipeline/tool developer, or tech artist in game or relevant CG industries
- Strong Python experience in the context of tools and UI (I.e. PyQt)
- Adapt in integrating third party software packages and APIs
- Understanding of modern AAA game workflows, modular world building and how to build tools that enable artists to easily modify scan data to cater to these workflows (organic and architectural)
- (Preferred) Familiarity with scan data acquisition and processing software packages (including Houdini, Reality Capture, and Substance Suite)
- (Preferred) Knowledge of photogrammetry workflows, data types, best practices, etc.
- (Preferred) Experience with utilizing build farms and creating custom processing jobs
- (Bonus) Working C++ knowledge
- (Bonus) Interest in researching and developing high end capture/processing techniques; combining photogrammetry, photometric stereo, structured light and using advanced processing methods like differentiable rendering.
- (Bonus) Familiarity or experience with light stages, half-hemisphere rigs, multiangle rigs, polarization, specular separation, spherical harmonics.
