As a Silicon Photonics Design Engineer you will engage in the development of advanced silicon photonics integrated circuits. You will take responsibility for the design of complex photonic devices and interconnects, as well as systems-on-chip, from design through fabrication, testing and analysis. As a member of our silicon photonics design team, you'll be working alongside other experienced and agile silicon photonics designers with strong records of delivering innovative photonic device designs and large-scale silicon photonics circuits.
What you will learn and contribute to
You will lead or support the design of active and passive photonic device components and/or complex photonic integrated circuits and systems. Develop new design approaches and innovate on both device-level design and system-level optimization. Interact with fab partners. Contribute to test development and lead the test data analysis of your devices to correlate and verify your design with the measurements. Collaborate with all other functional teams in the organization to deliver co-designed and co-optimized photonics chips.
Your skills and experience
You have:β’ M.S. or Ph.D. in electrical engineering / physics / applied physics / similar quantitative fields β’ Solid knowledge of object-oriented programming, as well as skills in Python or C/C++ β’ Good understanding of general concepts in physics, especially in optics and electromagnetics. β’ Understanding of general concepts in fiber optics and integrated optics. β’ Experience with designing or characterizing silicon photonic or other integrated optical/optoelectronic devices or circuits; experience developing components for optical I/O, including edge or fiber couplers, grating couplers, etc.
It would be nice if you also had:β’ Proficiency with optics design tools, such as Lumerical.β’ Experience in photonic integrated circuit design, scattering and transfer matrix approaches, and layout generation. β’ Solid numerical and physics-related programming skills. β’ Experience with high-frequency (RF) design and modeling. β’ Experience in TCAD modeling. β’ Experience with epitaxial growth and design. β’ Experience with controls theory and implementation.
