Senior Policy Manager
Job Description
The Senior Policy Manager will support Indivisible’s cross-team, multi-issue federal advocacy work. This work will include holding extremist Republican Members of Congress accountable and fueling a broadly appealing, populist Democratic majority to counter rising authoritarianism. The SPM is responsible for contributing to long-term planning, policy and political analysis, rapid response, production of supportive resources, and campaign management within Indivisible’s core campaigns.Â
This position will require having high-level conversations with Members of Congress and their staff, partners, and possibly the media. A key aspect of this position will be cultivating and managing key relationships with partner organizations, especially those representing directly affected individuals. This position will also require providing local Indivisible groups with information and support to empower them to do advocacy on these issues.Â
Indivisible is a multi-issue advocacy organization, and the SPM will be expected to lead or support Indivisible campaigns on a variety of policy issues. Candidates with backgrounds in reproductive justice or LGBTQ+ policy or advocacy are strongly encouraged to apply.Â
The SPM will report to the Legislative Director.
We are hiring for this position immediately. This position is full-time, with a starting salary of $75,900 per year, commensurate with experience. To uphold organizational parity and pay equity, we use a non-negotiable salary system that takes into consideration the entire breadth of a candidate’s experience, employment, and education to arrive at their final starting base salary. In addition, Indivisible provides a robust benefits package including full medical/dental/vision/life coverage, a professional development stipend, and an employer matched 401(k) plan.

Responsibilities:
- Provides subject matter expertise, and leads and supports policy work on at least one major campaign at a time (25%)
- Develops, recommends, and implements legislative strategy, and builds that strategy into campaign actions and materials, including innovative tactics for influencing Congress and the administration (20%)
- Conduct rapid analysis of developing issues, developing explainers, advocacy tools, and other materials for internal and external use to inform the Indivisible movement (15%)
- Support Indivisible groups and volunteers by providing updates on key developments, identifying opportunities for engagement, and communicating strategic recommendations for action (15%)
- Builds and maintains strategic partnerships with key partners, coalitions, and congressional offices (15%)
- Acts as a spokesperson or representative of Indivisible for external events, grassroots calls, coalition meetings, etc. (10%)
Required Qualifications (including education, experience, and knowledge/skills/abilities):
- At least 5 years relevant work experience, or at least 3 years and a relevant advanced degree
- At least 3 years of of advocacy experience, or comparable legislative experience
- Strong policy research skills, with the ability to quickly develop functional knowledge of new policy areas
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex policy issues and legislative processes in an accessible manner
- Bring a strong equity lens to all aspects of work
- Demonstrated experience working in coalitions / with partner organizations
- Ability to excel in a fast-pace, campaign-like environment
Desired Qualifications (including education, experience, and knowledge/skills/abilities) :
- Experience working on reproductive justice in a legislative or advocacy context, particularly at the federal level
- Experience working on LGBTQ+ equality in a legislative or advocacy context, particularly at the federal level
- Federal advocacy experience
- Political campaign experience
