Senior Principal Cloud Software Engineer

This is a key role in the development and maintenance of a Nuance platform-based solution that enables a large network of workflow-integrated AI applications while leveraging Nuance's proven diagnostic imaging solutions to provide critical information for personalized care decisions that increase efficiencies and lower healthcare costs.
Responsibilities

• Design and deliver software and infrastructure to improve the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of your services.
• Work with team leads and architect to define, develop, and deploy best practices in all engineering areas across the full development stack.
• Influence and create new designs, architectures, standards, and methods for large-scale distributed systems.
• Consistently deliver results per commitments
• React to issues with mission critical services and mitigate these with a goal towards automating response to all non-exceptional service conditions.
• Work in a distributed environment with teams around the world.
• Work across functions with peers to ensure collaboration on shared goals.
• Analyze existing systems and propose improvements, paying particular attention to latency, accuracy and extensibility.
• Perform tasks related to securing services and infrastructure and incorporating a security centered mindset towards products, tools, and processes.
• Define KPIs to monitor and maintain required service levels.
• Stay educated on existing, emerging technologies and develop POCs to evaluate these for fit.
• Support team efforts in adopting relevant new technologies, tools, methods and processes.

Qualifications
Minimum years of work experience

• 6+ years software development experience
• 10+ years software industry experience

Education
Bachelor's, Master's, or PHD degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
Required skills

• Deep experience with agile methodologies; continuous integration, delivery and deployment to production.
• Complete software life cycle experience, including deployment to production.
• Experience with building backend, distributed systems in one or more general purpose programming languages.
• Strong focus on quality right from the design phase, incorporating best practices and engineering for testability.
• Must be able to work in a distributed environment and balance competing priorities.
• Experience securing products, tools, and processes.
• Familiarity with service and cloud-based architectures.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, required for communication with globally distributed Nuance teams.
• Passion for software engineering, design, and performance.
• Excellent technical, analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong people and negotiation skills, able to listen to disparate technical opinions and build consensus.

Preferred skills

• Embraces software development processes and design principles.
• Strong background in DevOps concepts and tools.
• Familiarity with service and cloud-based architectures.
• Experience with software load balancers, message queues, and other task distribution technologies.
• Experience with data lake and analytics technologies.
• Experience delivering highly available and highly scalable solutions.
• Expereince with different techniques for HA and DR.
