Senior Principal Computational Fluid Dynamics Engineer

As a Senior Principal Computational Fluid Dynamics Engineer, you will champion simulation driven research and design development of products to achieve pipeline objectives for the R&D organization and assist product development plans using simulations to facilitate translation from in vitro data (such as dissolution behavior) to in vivo performance, or species to human translation, in order to reduce time to market. This position will be in Fort Worth, Texas. In this role, a typical day will include:

• Serving as a resident subject matter expert in providing computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and or fluid-structure interaction (FSI) services on a wide range of products and possesses multiple inter-disciplinary areas of expertise.
• Providing technical and programmatic guidance requiring unique skills given general business objectives; regularly focusing on providing solutions to the most complex issues
• Demonstrating the highest level of service acumen while consulting with product teams and peers to develop short- and long-term simulation project plans with thorough consideration of cost and schedule to achieve business objectives.
• Applying CFD to modeling aspects of ocular physiology and the effects of medical devices and procedures such as (1) Drug distribution / delivery following various modes / devices for drug administration (2) Interaction of contact lenses and dry eye medicaments on the front of the eye (3) Surgeries, such as corneal refractive, cataract phacoemulsification, vitrectomy, retinal tears (4) Fluid production and elimination / regulation of intraocular pressure
• Performing a wide range of technical work including studies requiring special qualifications / attainments in the area of CFD, being recognized as an authority in use of CFD with wide versatility of experience and capability, including ability to verify and validate simulation
• Developing high level Multiphysics simulation work plans for multiple R&D technology platforms, ensuring accurate and on time completion and delivery of these plans. Ability to show impact of simulations to products and development process.
• Developing and applying complex concepts and proposes new and unique approaches, methods, procedures and designs with regular use of ingenuity, creativity and originality to research and/or development that addresses identified ophthalmic extra ocular device / medical device / pharmaceutical science / technology needs.
• Directing outputs of team, project or business activity, often across locations
• Providing leadership direction, determining and developing approach to solutions by coordinating multiple resources to solve complex problems
• Acting as a mentor in the Modeling & Simulation organization
• Making decisions independently, within a clear program of action
• Constructively critiquing the work of others in a peer review process

What you'll bring to Alcon:

Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school+15 yrs; Assoc.+11 yrs; M.S.+4 yrs; PhD+3 yrs)
• Expert user of Ansys Fluent, CFX, Mechanical, and / or Star CCM+ with demonstrated ability to model multi-phase flows, turbulence, species/mass transfer and fluid structure interaction. Ability to use dynamic meshing and write user defined functions. Experience in developing efficient mesh for complex geometries.
• Familiarity with application of CFD simulation to dissolution science
• The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English.
• 7 Years of Relevant Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in mechanical or CFD engineer +10 yrs min
• PHD +7 yrs
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills are required.
