About the Role
Arm's Solutions Engineering (SE) Physical IP (PIP) team has an opening for a Physical Design (PD) methodology engineer with experience across all PD stages from RTL to Signoff GDS experience. In this role you will define and lead the integration of advanced process technologies into Arm's PD design flow. The role combines broad PD skills with extensive scripting/programming which supports all major EDA flows across a spectrum of advanced foundry technologies. You will have the opportunity to develop new PD techniques, interacting directly with physical IP architects, dive deep into the technology, and craft robust approaches to PD with PPA in mind. Our team has a diverse set of engineers working across five design centers globally, servicing both internal and external partners around the world.
An Arm a Senior Principal Engineer is high-ranking technical role with high visibility at all levels within the company. Senior PEs set technical direction in their areas of expertise and align with other senior members of the technical staff. They act as role models and mentors to less senior engineers. Senior PEs may represent Arm in a technical capacity to external parties.

Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of new and improved advanced block-level physical design techniques.
- Analyze and interpret physical design implementation results and identify issues with the physical IP, process technology, and EDA tool.
- Support and teach internal and external partners.
- Deeply understand the process node technology, and its impact on block-level physical design.
- Understand EDA algorithms for place and route.
- Collaborate with EDA on physical design flow improvements.
- Collaborate with teams across Arm to perform root-cause analysis of issues and develop innovative solutions.
Required Skills and Experience:
- A BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or other relevant technical fields.
- 15+ years design experience (for BSEE)
- 12+ years design experience (for MSEE)
- Detailed knowledge of industry software for automated place and route, EM-IR, timing analysis, synthesis and their associated programming languages and algorithms
- Extensive use of scripting languages to create utilities or flows outside the standard PnR design setup and closure.
- Algorithmic and methodic approach to finding solutions.
Nice to have Skills and Experience:
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong leadership skills, be self-motivated, persistent, and resilient with the ability to operate in the face of ambiguity.
- Solid understanding of technology defined DRMs (Design Rule Manual) and fabrication technology.
