Senior Principal Scientist/Associate Director, Chemistry

Boundless Bio is a San Diego-based, next generation precision oncology company employing an exciting new area of cancer biology, extrachromosomal DNA (“ecDNA”), to revolutionize the way cancer is treated.  We are seeking a Senior Principal Scientist/Associate Director to lead medicinal chemistry projects for Boundless Bio’s small molecule drug discovery programs in hit-to lead and lead optimization to advance novel ecDNA candidates into transformative therapies to treat patients with oncogene amplified driven cancers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Advance projects in close collaboration with biology and pharmacology colleagues by coordinating iterative cycles of novel bioactive compound design, synthesis and SAR evaluation, including interpretation of ADME and PK data.
• Serve as a project leader for one or more drug discovery programs.
• Lead the design, synthesis and testing of novel bioactive small molecules based on the interpretation of in vitro and/or in vivo experimental data.
• Collaborate closely with other functional areas such as biology, computational chemistry, DMPK, pharmacology, CMC and toxicology to design experiments and collect, analyze, and interpret data related to key projects.
• Present on all or parts of the generated data to other project team members as well as the rest of the company, with transparency and clarity.
• Manage significant portions of CRO activities and contractual relationships.
• Use computational tools and structural biology data to interpret SAR, develop models and design new molecules.
• Remain up to date with relevant scientific literature.
• Accurately and diligently report experimental findings.
• Contribute to IP supporting compound series.
• Represent the company externally in scientific meetings and congresses.
• Maintain laboratory equipment in good condition and promote common safe work environment practices.
• May manage and lead 1-2 direct reports.
• Perform all duties in keeping with Boundless Bio’s core values, policies, and all applicable regulations.

In addition, this individual will present data internally to senior leadership and to external stakeholders as required and will manage external CRO resources as well as manage and mentor direct reports.

Education/Experience:

• PhD or MS in synthetic organic chemistry and 8+ years of related postdoctoral and industry experience, or equivalent.
• Demonstrated program leadership and successful track record in a drug discovery environment, including advancing at least one program from hit to lead candidate.
• Demonstrated success working in a collaborative team environment.
• Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Desired:

• Experience with structure-based drug design.
• Experience managing external CRO resources.

The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $140,000 to $200,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. In addition to base salary, Boundless Bio employees are eligible for an annual bonus incentive and an equity stock option grant.  Boundless Bio offers a competitive benefits package including, medical, dental, vision, and life insurance for employees and their dependents.  We also offer a 401(k) plan with a matching contribution in addition to a flexible time off policy.
