Northern Trust is continually adapting to increasing information security threats which requires scalable, sustainable infrastructure designed around sound security principles.
This position is an expert responsible for network infrastructure architecture and engineering initiatives with an explicit focus on alignment with information security and risk reduction in the technology portfolio.
The ideal candidate would have a strong IT cross-functional background and experience in securing complex technical solutions. This role reports to the Chief Infrastructure Architect and is part of Global Technology Infrastructure.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Strong network security understanding having experience in managing and architecting zero-trust network architectures
- Understanding of network and authentication protocols including but not limited to: IP, TCP, UDP, DNS, TLS, LDAP(S), SAML, FIDO2, IPSEC, OpenVPN, OSPF, BGP, KERBEROS, and802.1x
- Understanding on Securing Privileged Access and MS RAMP model
- Experience with Azure services including but not limited to: Azure Bastion, Azure KeyVault, Sentinel LogAnalytics , Arc, AppProxy, Entra, PIM, Defender for Cloud, Endpoint and Identity
- Strong skills in Kusto Query Language
- Skills in translating broad strategic intent into actionable plans and directions to enable delivery.

Major Duties:
- Operates as Architect for Network Security Control functions
- Drive infrastructure information security architecture by aligning processes, IT software and hardware, local and wide area networks, people, operations, and projects with the organization's overall security strategy
- Interprets and/or approves security requirements relative to the capabilities of new information technologies
- Carries out complex initiatives involving multiple disciplines and/or ambiguous issues
- Interact closely with the Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure Engineering, and Information Security to evaluate options and make decisions on go forward security architectures, models and principles.
- Interfaces frequently with information security industry groups to stay abreast of emerging security trends
- Ensure information security is core to public, private and hybrid cloud architecture and deployment.
- Ensure platform delivery aligns with information security roadmap
- Collaborates with vendors to achieve the platforms outcomes
Experience:
- Requires a college or university degree and/or relevant proven work experience, organizational, leadership, and management skills to provide knowledge to the functional business.
- Extensive experience, that has been developed over 15+ years, in change / design initiatives, covering such areas as operations, IT and product development; with a track record of accomplishment in large, complex projects and change initiatives
- Experience in the area of Information Security is required. Industry certification such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, GIAC is preferred
